I just want to say that until you shifted the webcomic paradigm and managed to break through the glass ceiling that the public media and newspapers have set up, then you can call yourself an artist. If you haven't done this then it's just a meaningless hobby that lacks passion and vision.

That said my influence in the webcomic world while not recognized is by far more reaching than that of Garfield or of Penny Arcade.

I consider mself more in the "geeky shocialphope who likes to draw hot women" catagory. I do own a few black shirts and a dark long coat, though.

I'll pass on reading this Penny Arcade thing once more...everytime it's brought up it's either saying how absolutely fantastic and a must-read it is, or that they're a pack of dicks.

Both of those arguments cause me to turn away and find something better to check out...

I'd rather find out for myself if something's fantastic and not have it told to me endlessly.

Not that that's gonna hurt them, of course. Who am I?

Out of curiosity, if I angst while wearing black, and also do webcomics, but I don't do these things at the same time, it that close enough, or do I have to be a angsty person who does comics who's clad in black?

Normally I'm not a fan of Penny Arcade, mainly because I don't understand the humor. This one I laughed at, though, because... I laugh at any mention of masturbation. That cracks me up. Shutting up now, because I obviously have nothing semi-intelligent to add to the discussion.

What just came to my mind (and in relation to what Dutch said) is that we have two threads that are not about the documentary, but about the PA response to documentary. It seems like thing doesn't even happen until PA rants about it. Plus, seeing the comic first through the link in the thread, and then the documentary, we encounter PA opinion first and the actual film later.

Since comics is a serial artform, I would say you can perfectly well do them all serially and maintain your street credibility as bona fide artist. That is my opinion. Others may disagree, though. *makes a documentary about the schism between serial and parallel angsting/black-wearing/webcomicking schools*

You know, normally I wouldn't care very much about the braying of barnyard animals, but I just got this bit of news about the whole documentary thing, and it seems like we haven't been given the whole picture on this whole issue.

The more I think about it the more the idea of a Webcomics Tabloid really seems more and more feasible.
