Qix was just a 12 year old programmers version of Xonix. A poor version at that. YOu could win the game just by going right one "grid", then straight away going back again. Nah. Qix was poor. But Xonix, the original, was my favorite game on my 286.
In reality, Xonix was actually based on Qix, just so you know. I just liked Xonix a lot more than Qix so I rewrite history to suit.
WHAT?! The site you put up says Xonix appeared in 1995. Qix I played in 1986; so how is Qix a Xonix rip-off?! I can understand of course if you just sucked at it, but messing with the dates and all is not good business :P

And, Collapse: yes, all my Apple games play in the IIgs. Always wanted one of those.

Maybe I could flash it sometime :)

I got hooked on Oregon Trail after reading about it here and remembering it existed. I'll probably have a storyline about it at some point.

Mate, to me you will always be little :)
Check me being all smooth and stuff. woo

Ahem.. anyway..
IIRC, Jumpman was the predecessor to Donkey Kong. So that makes the character Jumpman actually MARIO.. I think. Memory may be a little fuzzy on details from that long ago :-?

Grogs Revenge was pretty cool. I used to play that one quite a bit myself.

Spy vs Spy was a hell of a lot of fun. The two sequels were not quite up to par, but the first one was really great. A little too "Random" for my likings with the placement of your traps etc. Mates used to love playing this against each other. I have never been, and will never be, a competitive player, so I just used to VS a computer player, or watch my mates try to out wit each other.

Never even heard of Forbidden Forrest. That usually menas I have it in my collection, but it didnt catch my attention enough for me to play.

Impossible Mission (and its sequel) were GIANT POPULAR "back in the day", but for me personally they just were not Playable enough. I mean the concept was sound but the controls were far to unforgiving relying mostly on luck over management. Also it was time limited. I hate time limits. Almost as much as I hate Jump Buttons (coupled with very small platforms over instant death drops).

Yeah. M.U.L.E was one I was looking forward to playing again. Very early colonization / management sim. I used to like that quite a lot, actually. There was another game out back then called KAISER that was simillar that I liked a lot more tho. It could be played on two fronts. Economic and military. the Military portion was only usable in multiplayer games, so I never used it (since I will not play games against other players) but the economic single player was really really cool.

I don't know about "predecessor", but was the same general idea; run (and yes, jump) around a complex of levels and ladders, dodge being shot by bullets that came zipping onto the screen, avoid various other enemies and collect.. I think they were planted bombs according to the background story, but as far as actual gameplay was concerned they were Generic Reward Pellets. Collect all the GRPs and you automatically move onto the next level. A fun game, with a nice variety of special surprises from level to level.

Another great one along the same line was Lode Runner. You dug holes instead of jumping, and it was far more generic from level to level than Jumpman, but it had the added attraction of allowing you to easily create your own levels. My sister and I made dozens.

there are the games everyone knows about on the c64 - but some of my faves were a little more niche

kikstart 2 - actually based on an obscure little TV show, no ones ever heard of it but man that was top. - one of the first games with a course designer that i know of

pipeline 2 - memories of this one are vague, but you basically charged around a maze of pipes mending leaks and running from evil drills and powertools. yeah.

anything by Minter. ever. whether it involved, sheep, camels, llammas, mutant camels, goats, lawnmowers, or..... uhh. ancipitals. (hover bovver is the best game ever. yes)

btw - the startrek game? that turned up on just about every format under some name or other.
Jaw droppingly large strawberry desserts.

Aw man I LOVED LodeRunner. I used to play that all the time on Mates C64s before managed to save enough to buy my own. Of course once I HAD one I doscovered a buttload of better games, but I used to just love LodeRunner. It once again required some thinking. It was more an action puzzle game. I liked that concept.

I managed to score HYPER LOADRUNNER on the original Gameboy. It was actually a little cooler because the "arenas" ware smaller, so they beefed up the puzzle side of it. Never finished either version (100 levels iirc) but I used to love trying.

Minter was a little too tripped out for my liking. Definately unique. I willl admit that. You could see a lot of the "left over" concept in each game. Wasn't there in fact actually a late release where a lot of the previous stuff was scaled down and released as a "multi-gaming" concept? Took a lot of the original games, sort of mini-games them, and you had timers and things which made you jump randomly from game to game? Wierd stuff.

==

I was playing Spyro: A Heroes Tale the last few days and in this game there is a "mini-game" where Spyro gets inside a "ball" (dragon ball, anyone?). The first time this mini-game is free roaming. You roll around and bounce, dash or break however you wish, then find a "hole" that you fall down to go to the next level. Damn if that didnt bring back memories of WizBall!!

There is also a new Playable character introduced to the series in this Spyro game called Blink who is a mole. He is playable during his own totally separate minigame that is so much like the old MONTY MOLE series on c64 that I just had to mention it.

Some old Gamers still lurking around the design areas of Eurocom, I rekon :)

Eep, I forgot Lode Runner.
We have three versions of it here.. the C64 one, plus two more that Sierra put out for the PC. The first PC one was a lot of fun, much like the original except the graphics and sound were different. The second one is kind of odd - I'm still not sure if I like it or not. It's 3D.
Damn. Now I have to go find the first Lode Runner CD and put that on this computer...

My mother LOVED Loderunner; again, we had the Apple version of it. She was the only household member to finish the game. Us kids were more interested in creating difficult and devious levels for it. Then we'd sic them on my mother, who always managed to come out on top.

Years later we got the PC version, the one where there are niches in the walls you can hide in, but it was just not the same. Whenever we pull out the ol' Apple to play, Lode Runner and Wings of Fury are invariably in the list.

There! I finally found this thread again. People from this thread might know me as the guy trying to flash Wizball, which I started about a month ago. TODAY I found the time to work on it some more. There are many improvements but its still far away from an actual game. Still, because I had to show you people I transformed what I had into an "unfinished Wizball minigame". Only little to scroll, few enemies to kill, only 60 seconds. Yeah, sounds kinda lame, BUT all of the coding so far works perfectly. I just HAD to show you guys.
The concept is you are wizball and have to gather lots of points in 60 seconds. Thats your motivation :P You can even post your score here to see whos best ;D

if (you know this game == "yes") {
.... uh sorry ^^;
Im still thinking in Actionscript. What I meant is, if you know the game Wizball from C64 have a look. If you dont know the game have a look anyway. I added a help page so anyone can enjoy this minigame.
Oddly enough, its a little slow when played in a browser. But its still ok.
Oh yeah, and no sound to keep it small :)

Enjoy!
