Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the discussion has been on level most of the time. No need for mod.

i'm the kind of person that thinks the Democrat party is too conservative, but i still like to discuss these things with people who don't share my viewpoint. that's what democracy IS y'all!
and yeah, i'm very glad i don't live in sardineland.

Depends. In some places people are waiting hours to vote. Literally. But this is an unusual election, and normally turnout in America is sadly quite sparse. I voted this morning, and I had to wait maybe five minutes to get to a booth, and that was the longest than I've ever had to wait at my current polling station.

And stucifer, unless you're trying to be mildly insulting, it's the "Democratic Party", not the "Democrat Party". Maybe not something to get worked up about, but people do.

They're saying that if there's even a 58% turnout of Americans, it'll be amazing. Our country is so sad. The average voter turnout for other countries is in the high 70's.

However, I did hear that it was estimated that Oregon would have an 85% turnout....which makes me sooo happy. That is, if it's actually true.

I'm voting after work. I'm going to try to get off earlier to beat traffic... no promises on that though.

Voting for president was only a tiny portion of the fun... local and state elections are always the most fun. So are the amendment proposals that take up the whole back of the ballot.

Surely your friends should be at least concerned with the state and municipal races... those have just as much of an effect as the national elections, even if only on a smaller scale.

The sad thing is that people often don't think of the many other things that are being voted for during the presidential elections. And those who do show up to vote aren't aware of these either and make horribly uniformed decisions in selecting judges, district attorneys, school board representatives, and on voting for or against state amendments.

really, locally we're have a big howdy doo on an admendment about how to handel appointing officals. See, during the last governer race, one of our senators ran for governer (I still have no idea why) and he own, sadly because I think people knew who he was vs. the unknown from the other party and really poor campain tactics... anyway, he left the senate to be our governer, and when that happened, he got to appoint someone to take his seat. He picked his own daughter. now, granted, some people think she's doing a great job (I'm am not one of them), but almost everyone agrees he did it out of pure biasness. If you think about it, once you're in the senate, even for one year, you're set for life. Once you're voted out, you're on a retirment plan that sets you for life. You get a pay check until you die once you've served in the senate. Frank just set his daughter up for life! But the point is, there were plenty of other people that work in Alaskan politics that were better qualified.

Basically, the admendment would call for an immediate vote to choose a secessor instead of the present sen. choosing who takes their place.

I voted for Michael Badnarik a couple weeks ago (absentee). Didn't want to vote for either of the two evils.

So I probably contributed in handing Pennsylvania to Kerry.

It's like I voted for Kerry, and I voted against him. Hmm...

It's nice to vote for someone besides the two main parties, but Badnarik is a BAD idea. Libertarian, my ass. He's just another media czar. Take a look at his holdings and career.
