Countdown to Kill Bill Volume 2!!
I've been waiting quite a bit for this movie. As I figured I'm not alone in my fascination with this epic sword fighting masterpiece, what are other people's opinions on this film?

Mmm, Uma Thurman... *gurgle noises*

I'm afraid I'm not a fan. I don't mind the violence but the movie didn't really have anything else. Certainly no plot. Okay, it had backstory but in the movie itself, it was just the Bride killing things. That's all it was.
And the fight choreography... Well, it was probably good but in the aftermath of the Brutish Brawl, it really doesn't stand up. Combatants were hanging around waiting for their cue. The Agent Smiths may have been a little slow getting up occassionally but they were always moving. The fight choreography in Reloaded was tighter, better planned and more realistic* and I'm afraid that by comparison, Kill Bill just seemed old and amaturish.
It was like Spider-man, actually. I watched the making of that on DVD when Two Towers came out. They were saying how amazing and cutting edge the CG Spidey was but compared to Gollum, it was pathetic. Big words and bad timing.**

* In that no one avoids fighting the hero until a certain time, not in any sort of physical "realistic" sense.
** In a similar vein, I feel sorry for Alfonso Cuar

Huh. Planned choreography and realistic are usually mutually exclusive terms. You can not say Neo pulling a metal sign post out of the concrete ground and bouncing it around like a piece of rubber against a bunch 3d puppets was more realistic or more entertaining than the House of Blue Leaves scenes. Although some of the sword guys in the background were obviously swinging around randomly, its not like they could all rush in swingly wildly without taking each other out.Joel Fagin wrote:The fight choreography in Reloaded was tighter, better planned and more realistic* and I'm afraid that by comparison, Kill Bill just seemed old and amaturish.

And comparing the 3d in Spider Man to the live action and wire work in Kill Bill and not the obviously smooth and fake cg in Reloaded seems a bit odd. You can not say the 3d in Reloaded was superior to the wire work in the original, and it was definitely not better than Kill Bill's.
Also, who else got bored during that fight? I'd say the fight with the Agent's was one of the most boring, expensive fight in history! 5 freaking minutes with no resolution?! No damage, no broken sunglasses, was there even a little blood leaking from his lips? Probably not. It was like DBZ but with no glowing or fireballs...
...
And who the hell wanted to see Keanu's naked plug covered body?!

I did say I wasn't talking about physical realism. Anyway, I wasn't counting the CG there. I didn't say that but, yeah, the CG people in Reloaded is iffy at best.brockway wrote:Huh. Spider-man was compared to Gollum and was done so because they were, basically, so full of themselves on the making-of over how cutting edge the CG Spidey was. It really didn't compare well to Slinker and Stinker. Not at all.brockway wrote:And comparing the 3d in Spider Man to the live action and wire work in Kill Bill...

I giggle to myself whenever I think how lame Reloaded's million dollar, computer rendered, dog-piling, Burly Brawl looked compared to Kill Bill's alive, sweaty, real, wire and squib using far cheaper fight. It was, like, the ultimate FU to CG filming.
I like Kill Bill immesnly because it unashamedly admits to having no credible plot and being nothing other than a non-stop slash fest.
It doesn't come out here till the 22nd of April, But I'm getting to see it in an special limited pre-premiere Kill Bill Marathon... TOMORROW!!!

I'm seeing it to! I don't care who I have to hurt to get in... As long as its not a girl, cause that would be uncool. Unless she challenged me, then it would be cool. Now the real question: Do you think people will dress up for it? A theatre full of Go-Go's would be pretty cool. I'm not sure many girls could pull of the Uma look though. The best part is, I won't see a bunch of trech coat wearing fat guys with sunglasses at night! What could a guy dress up as that would be recognizable? Bill didn't show his face, and Bud just wore a cowboy hat.
2003 will be remembered as the year of the overrated cg action movies...

For the weak-willed, spoiler junkies, there are some clips that have been released and you can find them here.

Believe it or not, I got Kill Bill on CD here but still didn't watch it. I was a huge fan of QT but everything he did after Pulp Fiction was a dissapointment. So I'm afraid that KB would be a dissapointment too, so I'm keeping it in my locker.
My sis watched it, she didn't particulary like it, but she's the one who pays more attention to story and script, while I'm concerned about direction and such stuff (due to participating film workshop back in high school).

I saw it, it was quite good. Where 1 was sort of a mindless kill fest, this one was alot more cerebral. It looks like they put all the story that was missing in 1 and stuck it all in 2. Still violent, but in a more beautiful way... Just need to see the whole thing at once now... Of course, it almost got overshadowed by a certain preview... Hero starring Jet Li, with Quentin Terantino somehow involved. It was fucking incredible looking... Had it lasted just a few more minutes, I probably would have made my pants sticky... I had goosebumps up and down my arms...
So that would be.. uh..mcDuffies wrote: I was a huge fan of QT but everything he did after Pulp Fiction was a dissapointment.

Watch your copy of KB McDuffies! It won't hurt!
That much.
Kill Bill 2:
Although the lack of ninjas suddenly pouring through the ceiling for no apparant reason kinda dissapointed me, it was more than made up for by the amount of almost farcical humour and subtle brain-fuckery in the script. Those are good things.
Although the atmosphere was slightly different (considerably less gore and splatter this time around) this movie is still, like the first, all about style. I liked it.
Without giving away any spoilers let me just say that that is one FUCKED UP 4 year old.
