I picked up the Wii version of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed today. And it. Is. Awesome.
From what the reviews say, it's a pretty short game, 6 hours or so 'til the finish. I don't know how far in I am, but I think I have most of the powers and I've upgraded lightning to the max. It's incredibly satisfying, running into a room full of stormtroopers, force pushing a bunch of them over some railings into an abyss, then picking up a massive girder which I've ripped from the wall and using it to crush another row of stormtroopers against the wall, before frying any survivors with some electrical pain.
I'm gonna say it now. Graphically, it's poo. It looks about the same as the PS2 version. That's not really bothering me though to be honest, because the gameplay more than makes up for it.
The controls for the wii version really do work amazingly well. I was suspecting it'd be a problem, but no, it all works as it's supposed to. For lightsaber control, the wiimote distinguises between left-to-right swings, right-to-left swings, upward swings, downward swings, and forward lunges. It might not be the one-to-one lightsaber control we were all hoping for, but it's a damn good system all the same. Stringing different attacks together makes some really nice combos, and some combos unleash further force powers, such as
Slash, Slash, massive electrified ball of force to the face. Using force powers by pushing your hand forwards is nice too. All in all, I think I'd pick the Wii controls over those of any other console version. I haven't played the two-player dueling mode yet (a Wii exclusive I might add), 'cause I have nobody to duel with
But the best bits for me are the boss battles. Once you've smashed a boss around for long enough, you'll be given action prompts, similar to God of War, which if you pull off correctly will lead to some epic moves with you jumping all over the shop and generally kicking the arse of said boss. Looks especially nice if you're fighting a bigger enemy, like an AT-ST or a Rancor.
As I say, I haven't finished it yet, but the story is looking really good too so far, and gives a lot more character depth to Vader, something the prequels never managed.
