Country logos

Post by Joel Fagin »

There always seems to be a lot of business logos here abouts shaped like Australia. Here's just a few I picked up off the web but logos like these are damn near ubiquitous around here...

http://www.widebayaust.com.au/

I've always kind of wondered if lots of countries do this. And, if they do, I'm curious which ones. I imagine shape has something to do with it.

So, who gets this sort of thing happening in their country?*

* I bet there are a few bootmakers in Italy who do it...

You ever been to Texas? Every single sign there is shaped like the state. Although the locals will generally argue that Texas is a COUNTRY, not a state. :shifty:

I'm all for giving Texas its independence. Then we could build a wall around it, and keep the Texans in.

I haven't seen too many logos with the shape of the US, though I'm sure they exist. Generally, they're more likely to use a stars and stripes theme work in a 'USA' in red and blue.

The state of Kansas uses sunflowers (the state flower) for a lot of things (state highways especially). Missouri seems to use the shape of the state... which is lamer than a flower... maybe.

I'd certainly like to see a logo in the shape of Croatia.

Yeah, I guess I've seen more state-based logos than USA based. Texas Instruments comes to mind, though I know there are others that aren't Texas...okay, at least some that aren't Texas....I think....

Alaskan companies often have the state shape in the logo. Their names also often have "great Alaskan whatever" in them or something like that. Ohoho we're so great and frontiersy.

I can only think of insurance companies off the top of my head. And that's state logos.

I can't believe that FlamingText.com is still around. I remember using it like, 4 years ago.

Likewise for Canada, but I do see a lot of red and white and maple leaf motifs.

I guess it comes down to country shape. Australia is quite neat and tidy compared to most ragged coastlines, and kinda, sorta, almost symmetrical. Basically, I expect, it has to be a shape that can be simplified a great deal but still appear recognisable and an aesthetically pleasing shape.

1. Have you ever been to Texas? I live here, we really don't use the state on all of our signs I promise. But it's true that we like to use it as a symbol, but it's only because it's a very defined shape, not a square like a lot of our neighbors. Also in it's past Texas has had a lot of boundary issues and its a good way of boasting that we won the disputes. :P

2. We are a country! Muah ha ha!

3. We should build a wall. That way we can watch America beg us back.
I'm glad 90's style forum signatures don't exist anymore.

Excellent, that will save us from having to do it ourselves. Have fun on your own, don't bother to write.
