The desert island game -- for artists.

You know the desert island game: "if you had to marooned on a desert island what would you take with you." Someone answers a chef, someone answers a woman, someone eventually answers a boat.

But I'm packing to go on a month long vacation (to an island) and planning to do some art while I've got the time. It got me wondering. Most people here do art (it's generally why we're here) so, If you were going to spend a month on an island, what art supplies would you bring?

Me, I'm going with a pencil set (H6-B6),
a small sketchbook,
assorted erasers (kneaded, stick, and a couple others),
a dip pen with various tips,
ink (black, gray and sepia),
some brushes,
and a couple pads of watercolor paper.

Well, not much choice there. A load of HB pencils, knedder and sharpener... bottle of ink and a dip pen... or if I'm limited with suplies than a few .02 and .03 markers... a load of my "middleweight" paper, and some A5 size paper for writing. Also a drawing table.

I'd just bring my art box: which is just a tool box that has a little bit of everything in it. Pencils, pens, watercolors, crayons, charcoal, like 5 different kinds of erasers, rulers, brushed and so on. And my art bag: which has an assortment of papers.

I find traveling with brushes, dip pens, ink and cleaner to be a pain in the ass. Faber-Castell PITT brush pens are nice to travel with. Not as sensitive as a brush, but more convenient when you're up and about. But if you're going to be staying in the same spot, brushes and ink are good.

Other stuff I'd bring if it were me are art tape, a t-square, a digital camera and some sort of portable music device.

Just find a good pencil box like I did, I throw a bunch of pencils and erasers and even an ink bottle in it, and when I have to travel I just toss it into a bag.

Damn, I swear by the Faber-Castell PITT brush pens. They're impossible to find round here though, so I'm rationing the ink in em now <_<

But to the question at hand, I'm very liberal about my art supplies. As long as I have something to make marks, and I have something to mark. Pen and pad, pencil and napkin, rock on rock.

Mechanical pencils, lead refills, bristol board, a sketch book that I actually like, micron pens of varying sizes, a copic marker, and one of those magic erasers.

I can make sculptures out of trees. Or a raft.

Man, you guys are Way Serious when it comes to gear. Me, I grab whatever vaguely sharp pencils I have, maybe a few markers (whatever I can find), my clipboard and some printer paper. If I'm particularly well-prepared, I'll also have some kinda eraser and either a sharpener or knife. But yeah, no special tools here.

actually if this really happens it is mandatory to bring the god weapon, a hi power wireless internet laptop. maaaaaaaybe some company to remanisce about how you pwn some newbs at guild wars. but i say a laptop, windows paint man.

Bristol board, blue pencils (not that I'd be scanning anyway), penknife (better than sharpeners), metal ruler, 0.1 and 0.2 pens.

Oh, and a plane. An.. art plane. Yeah.

Yeah, I get those from sister too, because I can't find them around. But I don't find them irreplacable with other Faber-Castell pens.

This thread also serving the purpose of making sure I don't forget my pencil sharpener. ('Though in a pinch I have used a rough rock to sharpen my pencils before.)

A few sketchbooks, a mechanical pencil with a bunch of refills, a kneadable eraser... and some FarSide, Bloom County, and Calvin & Hobbes books.

A couple of fineliners (02 and 08), a pencil, sharpener, eraser, my permanent marker sharpie things, a wad of printing paper and that old poetry reader I use as a makeshift clipboard.
