The writers have said that season two should explore duplicate powers, so there will be at least one more person met who can do something that someone else can.

As to why Mohinder didn't just shoot Sylar when he knocked him out, they had to make a lot of changes to the episode and some were made a day before shooting began.
There were also more beats of action in the Sylar/Peter fight, including that Sylar was pushed out a window by Suresh and fell several stories to the pavement.
http://gregbeeman.blogspot.com/

So in the original script, Mohinder wouldn't have even been in a position to shoot Sylar at all and it was probably something the writers didn't even think of when the change was made.

Simone's father was probably involved in the company, his building was in the flashback with BennetDad and Hiro's Dad and it seems to be an important focal point.

Peter has been in the same room as Parkman, they both read each other's minds and caused a headache of feedback.

Peter's powers seem to be a combination of active and passive uses. It's mostly passive when he's around the original user and especially if that person is using theirs at the time. Claire, Claude, Parkman, and Nathan were all using theirs around him and he picked them up and used them easily and right away.

After that, he's been passive when not around the person or when they're not using their powers around him. TK, healing, and flying all happened without his conscious thought about them.

He can activate them consciously, he seems to have mastered invisibility at least.

But there's almost no information about his base power. He may need to be in contact with someone for a certain length of time if they aren't using their power, if length of time is important does he automatically retain them if the person was using theirs around him, do some powers take importance over others depending on these factors, he may need to 'recharge' after a certain period, he may gain them indefinitely if he's been around a person like a family member long enough, he may only be borrowing them and if they die it's gone, and so on.

How his base power works is important to determining what other powers he may have. He could have passed people on the street who were powered without his knowledge.

But the one power I want them to explore, and one that he almost certainly has, is Hiro's.

Hopefully there'll be lots of Hiro in the next episode.

Edit: Sylar has 14 powers?!?! I think I lost track somewhere.... :o

Yes, but I meant specifically they should explore Peter using it.

I am super excited about Monday's episode, though.

Yah. From what they've shown of it, it's hard to believe some of the characters ended up where they did...

Wait a second...in the future shown in the String Theory graphic novel chapter, Sylar had taken Claire's power. String Theory runs into the next episode. But Claire's been shown in the episode.

Also, it is my opinion that all of you who've done heroes doodles should repost them in this thread so we have them all in one place, nice and neat, but that'st just me. I gotta lego some heroes.

Collision of alternate timelines. Happens when you have time travel. Pretty much future Hiro jumped timelines so his past is now the past of present Hiro who is also now in the future.

Per Lego's request. <strike>I need to scan the more finished version...</strike> Loaded...

Note how I had Sylar killing a mechanic in late November...then he killed one in mid-February.

So very psychic. Of course it turned out to be a woman, not a guy with a mullet...

Since Peter's power can theoretically go either way, after thinking about it more, I'm going to just list some new thoughts I had instead of arguing either side.

I think there is either a writer's error or a fascinating twist to Peter's power. Peter seems to have no control of the powers he gets directly, but total control of the powers he gets from Sylar.

Consider, he has healed himself unconsciously, numerous times (the power he got directly from Claire). When he was near Matt, they had a feedback of hearing each others thoughts. He was taking powers and not being able to control them. On the other hand, we know that he has taken all of Sylar's various powers, and SHOULD have gone through the super hearing problem, but he didn't. The only two explanations I can think of are a writer's error (or writer's ommision, because having Peter collapse from ear pain and being unable to fight would've messed up the scene) or the powers that Peter gets from Sylar come with a built in "only when I want to" control. The reason he didn't have the hearing problem is because he didn't activate the power, because he didn't know he had it.

rkolter wrote:Also, there's a good writing reason - you don't write two people with the same power. Power Absorption by meeting, and Power Absorption by digging through someone's brain, are pretty similar. Power Absorption and Power Mimickry seem similar, but are not.
You do if you want to have a giant climactic battle between two guys who are out of everyone else's league. In any case, although to two powers are different, Peter would re-absorb them as soon as he came close to Sylar anyways, so it doesn't really matter if he loses the power in between.

When he was with Matt, Matt was using his power. Claire was also using hers to heal, since Sylar had already pounded her. Claude was using his when Petey went invisible. Signs point to him using them unintentionally as he picks them up only when they're in use already.

This doesn't explain why he didn't use Sylar's TK when he got that, except that he didn't have anything in mind to throw...

Super hearing would have been in use when he met Sylar since it was a constant power, and he should have thus been struck by the 'hearing problem'.

I just realized that Peter hasn't read any minds since he met Matt, I wonder if he is able to master powers better than the original owner? (Since Matt cannot 'turn off the voices', Peter shouldn't be bale to either)

How about the glass fragments that Syler was convienently levitating at chest level in front of him?

I think of Peter has having a Champions (nee Heroes System) 'power pool'. He has a whole mess of powers, but he can only use one at a time. Unlike Sylar, who is able to use more than one power at once.

In one episode Peter explained that the way to get his powers to work consciously was to think of the person he met. That's how he first exhibited telekinesis, by thinking of Sylar. So it's a big question of whether Peter can use all of Sylar's stolen powers or if he can only use telekinesis -- the power that he's associated with Sylar in his mind. He certainly cannot consciously choose a power if he does not know a person has it, so cryokinesis and super-hearing are out until Sylar shows them to him.

As for his unconscious use of powers, he probably copies whatever base power the person has. So when near Sylar, the only power he automatically gains is the brain-eating ability (yes, yes, I know it's not brain eating, but it's convenient shorthand. :) )

I'm more interested in what Jessica's powers are...but maybe because I associate her with the Hulk. :) She's obviously super-strong, and probably super-quick, but is she bulletproof? She's killed so many people with guns that it's hard to believe nobody got a shot off at her...

Has Matt not? I guess it just hasn't served the plot to have him hearing things most of the time. I mean, you could explain it like he's getting a better grip on it and when he does it's because he's trying to...

As for mastery, I think Peter did that when he painted for Isaac, but without the drugs.

She doesn't change her shape. She alters the perceptions of those around her to appear as someone else. She can also extend this alteration of perceived reality to create "scenes" around her, like when she hid Simone's body on a blood covered bed from the police.
Right, which is why it's like that, though not exactly. It's still usable for Sylar's purposes.

Oh, man. If Sylar got that, he'd be unstoppable.

As powerful as both Peter and Sylar are, the only TRULY unstoppable hero is Hiro, but he's too busy being wacky.
