I think people don't realize that Valentine's Day isn't just for couples. I mean really its just a day to tell people you care. actually I always fancied it as being "get up the courage" day, for you tell someone you fancy that you do indeed find them attractive. Its not been that sense the school days, but I always figured that was the real purpose of it.

I sent out lots of valentine's for all those that I care for. I'm not in a relationship myself.. and I enjoyed it. actually thinking about it.. I haven't spent valentine's Day with someone in years. Granted the one I love, is pretty far away, so I never get to spent valentine's Day with her.

Eeee! Congratulations!

In these parts, Valentine's Day is still pretty new. And it's called Friend's Day, so there is less emphasis on romantic relationships.

Anyway, we didn't do much on Valentine's Day. My gf gave me roses and I gave her chocolate. Then we stayed home.
This webcomic, seen here is hosted on the free web host Comic Genesis which pretty much proves its not popular.

Annoying thing about Valentines day is that it makes you guilty if you're not caring about it, thus forces you to bye stuff. I don't like it, I simply can't get over the fact that it's a strategy to get money out of our pockets, and using intimate things like love for that purpose makes it even worse. Money is never much of an issue for me, but I don't like the feeling that I'm being cheated. Important days when I think about the person I love is her birthday, anniversary of our relationship, and many other days when we're not in situation to see each other.
I don't see how a holiday can make you feel guilty. Nor how it forces you to buy stuff. I've done some wonderfully romantic things that haven't involved buying anything, or at least, anything traditionally valentines-related, and the card I made for Beth this year was way nicer than any I'd have just bought at the store.

What can I say, I'm guilt-ridden, low self esteem, constantly wondering about righteousness of my actions. If I don't get a present, I fear that it will appear like I don't care. If I don't guy something pricey, I fear that I will appear cheap. Regardless of what occasion it is, I'm never sure what the other person actually expects from me, so when I don't live up to those expectations, I feel guilty. Not the only person to think that way, and all Valentines-related marketing actually has such people for target audience.

I had nobody to give something to this year....... so I went out and bought a rose for the fuck of it, and at the end of the day I gave it to a friend who got nothing from anyone else.

I forgot it was Valentine's Day. I spent the whole day behind a draftting table away from work because of the snow. Then I had some oatmeal and chicken wings.

We ended up having our "big Valentines Day dinner" at Taco Bell, then went to Wal-Mart.

I'm lucky I do not suffer from this guilt o-o:

You do not seem like the type that would fall to such a strategy. I mean, if you know you love the person, and they love you, then Valentine's Day is just a way of expressing it to them. You do not need anything special, (hell you probably do not even need a pronouncement of V-day), but it is the thought of cherishing your loved ones that matters.

If you feel guilty and bad about yourself all the time, then you're broken. You desperately need to smash something with a sledgehammer, then point at the wreckage and scream at it until the scream becomes a cackle, and the cackle a giggle, and the giggle a full blown belly laugh.

It's the only real cure.

Eh, I do that often, it feels better when society doesn't have to tell me. But it's not VD per se, it's the amount of such holidays, with Mother's day, Christmass, and a bunch of other holidays most of which are specifically Serbian...

I tried it once and I felt guilty that I made such mess.
