Blizzard is teh st00pid...

Post by Webkilla »

By the seven, the shaven, the ones that shall not be named, the moderators, the trolls, the kumquats, the whipped cream, the naked, the dead, the resurected and those little goblins that live under my bed: I hate the WoW update/patch system.

seriously!

sure... they gave us two weeks to download the big part of it - hey, guess what? Now that I have done that, does the patch downloader seem to care? nope - its still trying to download all 700Mb from scratch right now!

W. T. F!?!

Any torrent I can find says I'll be spending the next two days getting that thing downloaded - and even then there's no garantee that it'll work...

the WoW patch downloader can't even get a connection with the tracker! (meaning NO DOWNLOAD AT ALL)

I've missed out on an MC raid... my guild is gonna kill me

seriously... blizzard - what am I paying you people for?

I spent all night downloading that patch, but didn't mind since I was able to get stuff done. all I'm annoyed by is the sudden breakage of my throwing knives without any obvious way to fix them.

At times like this I'm happy not to be hooked on WoW.

Hating Electronics Arts is quite enough for me.

at times like this I'm happy to have played once, gotten sick of WoW and quit, played again after two years, found it to be the same and quit again, spending my time doing meaningful things and ignoring my co-workers and supervisor who complain that I don't play with them

I don't know about WoW, but I'd like to contribute:

Torrents in general are annoying. I once spent two weeks downloading something because the download speed never got about 4 kb/sec.
This is going in my notebook titled "Things I Didn't Know about Surface Dwellers."

utorrent

As for the time it takes to download something, that depends mostly on what you're trying to download and how many people have what you need.

I dunno man:

You pay them money.

They fail to provide the service unless you download crap.

It takes days to download the crap. During which time, you are paying for their service, without using it.

You continue to pay money.

They're the idiots?

First, I know torrents suck at my college because they slow pretty much all p2p traffic over their interweb to a crawl...which makes ftp and http downloads the way to go. I assume it's similar at colleges all over.

I never did play WoW, but that sounds incredibly dumb, to not have download resumation when the patch sizes are so large. (Really? >700 Mb? That's like a frickin' CD! Like, I've installed entire (complete) linux distros on less space!) It's not like the tech isn't there either--I mean, I know wget can resume ftp downloads at least. :/

But yeah, that sucks.

As far as EA goes, I pretend that they stopped making games after Desert Strike. Also, the EA label on the new Maxis games totally doesn't stand for Electric Arts. Really! :(

Obviously Blizzard is stupid. Case in point: They haven't made Starcraft 2 yet!

Yeah, I hate blizzard too. But not for their (frankly appalling) downloader/update system, but for the content of the patch. I got my update from the blizzard downloader. It was telling me it couldnt get a connection with the tracker either, but I left it on and it downloaded regardless. Took about 5 hours at that abysmal speed.

Anyway, to the patch.

Thinking of raiding any ally towns any time soon? (or horde if you play as ally scum).
Think again. All the guards that were previously level 55 are now level 65. God only knows what the level 60 guards have become.

LFG channel is gone, and it's replacement is shoddy at best. It only allows you to look for groups in dungeons the same level as you. So no more getting helped by a higher level player apparently.

Honour system is as crap as I'd anticipated, and REALLY bugs me, as I'd just gained enough rep in AV to be able to buy some cool stuff, and when I went to buy it earlier, it has decided that it didn't like my filthy rep, and instead wanted my honour points.Which I don't have. And which are VERY hard to earn at level 54, considering there are no HKs any more, and I'm not likely to survive against level 60s, let alone take them down. God I hate mages. So cowardly. Blink, Blink, Sheep, Blink, DEAD ROGUE, Blink, Blink, logout.

All in all, I'm too tired from complaining about WoW on WoW to put a lengthy description of everything wrong with this patch, but suffice to say, I'm seriously considering terminating my subscription.

I HATED the lfg channel so I'm quite pleased to see it go... although tomorrow when I settle down and actually try to find some groups with the new system I may regret the change... unlikely though.

They did make the upgrade, which only worked on full installs, such that if you installed it on your system, all the other systems with just network play installs could no longer play with you. That was intelligent. They almost got me to buy more copies of Starcraft, but instead I returned the upgrade.

Oh. Took me about two hours to download the patch and have it installed... and I'm on the lowest broadband deal I could manage.

And the whole game now seems to be running more smoothly than it ever has.

When you say "they", Kolter, I certainly hope you don't mean Blizzard. "Starcraft 2" was neither official nor professional.
Brood War, which is an expansion, was the official follow up to the original Starcraft, and there was a Nintendo 64 version of the game.

And I don't much care for Blizzard since they sold out. They had real potential for doing some good, yet their management decided to make them more of a corporation than a studio. Financially it has done wonders for them, but not all their employees really liked the idea of selling their souls. See Guild Wars.

I never liked Starcraft. I have a strong dislike for games which, while not bad per se, have gutted their genre so much that they cease to be part of that genre at all.

Blizzard is good at that. Diablo, a "role playing game" actually had as much gameplay depth as Doom. Starcraft, touted as a RTSG* was actually more of a RTOTOWSMCSG** and involved no strategy at all.

Ya, but those of us who had no idea what Warhammer 40,000 was, Starcraft did offer a lovely and purportably original theme.
