When was the last time you ACTUALLY got one of these?
It's almost an internet meme - the millions of dollars offered to you from an anonymous arabian contact claiming to be the son of some wealthy banker or the treasury official of a country.
But when was the last time you ACTUALLY got one of these letters? It'd been months and months for me. Today I got this one:
Dear Sir/Madam
May the blessing of God be upon you and grant you the wisdom and
sympathy to understand my situation and how much I need your help. I am Alhaji Umar the first sun of Usman.Umar former national security advicer to the ousted Sierria Leonean military head of state, Paul Koroma. I am writing to express my interest in real estate or landed properties in
your country. Though my father died in detention a couple of months ago
while been detained by the new government. Before his untimely death, he instructed me to leave the country for my safety and start up a
business somewhere out side Africa. The sum of (9.000.000 million ) US dollars was deposited in a security and finance company here in Dakar Senegal by my late father.Actually, I have never met you before, it was a friend of my father who happened to be present at his bural that adviced me to consider your country for my investments. After due consideration, I started searching the web side where I got your email address. No one else is aware of my proposal to you. Due to social, economic and political in stability in west African region, I decided to seek your assistance in transfering this money into your private or institutional account for investment purposes. I have all the vital documents that covers the deposit which could be faxed to you upon request. Transaction of this nature demands the highest trust and confidence between both parties. This transaction is risk free in the sense that. For your assistance in this transfer, I have decided to give 25% of the total sum involved and I will also compensate you with 15% for the inconveniences and for expenses that we may incure during the process. Your acceptance of this proposal or other wise should please be communicated through my E.MAIL address. Your quick response will be appreciated. However, if you are not disposed to assist, kindly distroy this letter to protect the identity and confidentiality of the parties involved.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Thanks.
Yours Sincerely,
Mr Alhaji Umar

Did I say snubbed? I meant GRATEFUL.
I've never received one of those letters. I feel snubbed.

He didn't have all THAT much money anyway, right?
I've gotten a few, all variances on the same theme. Been a week or three since my last...
Wonder if they really work. Let's find out. *Sends the emailer all of Cope's bank information*

[Urgent
Transfer]
Hello,
My name is Mr Alexander Gootti,I work in the
International operation department in a Local Bank here in South
Africa. On a routine inspection I discovered a dormant domiciliary
account with a Balance of $36,000,000 (Thirty Six Million USD) on
further discreet investigation, I also discovered that the account
holder has long since passed away (dead) leaving no beneficiary to the
account. The bank will approve this money to any foreigner because the
former
operator of the a/c is a foreigner and from Iraq in particular
and I am certainly sure that he is dead, and nobody will come again for
the claim of this money A foreigner can only claim this money with
legal claims to the account Holder; therefore I need your cooperation
in this
transaction.
I will provide the necessary information needed
in order to claim this money, But you will need to open an account
where this can be transferred. If interested send your private
Telephone No. And Fax number including full details of the account to
be used for the Deposit I wish for utmost confidentiality in handling
this transaction as my job and the future of my family would be
jeopardized if it were breached.
I want to assure you that the
transaction is without risk if due process is followed accordingly.
Finally, I will give you 25% for your corporation.
I look forward to
a favorable response
Yours
Mr Alexander Gootti

I get a nigerian spam almost every day. Fortunately my mail filters handle it. The longer you've had an email address and the more places you post with it, the more spam you recieve. I get over 100 pieces of spam a day. :/
The good news is that every piece of spam I receive rotates the Sig banner for my comic, so I'm making them work for me.

I think the best one (or worst depending on how you look at it) was one we recieved just after my husband's father passed away.
Along the same lines as the ones you've posted here - with the exception of that is was directly stating that his father had died while travelling in Kenya. The letter went on to say there was some ungodly amount of cash available for Scott should he only contact them to make arrangements.
Little did they know that we knew the exact details of his father's death and knew not to get suckered into a too good to be true scam such as that one!
I think they tried for three weeks straight to get some kind of response out of us before we put it on the blocked sender list (yes they continued to try to contact us with the same email address)
Wow, 100 spams a day? You need a better filter...LOL...I get one or so a day (Where I used to get about 500 a week!), so I really like my new email handlers because I see very few. Most of what I still get are Phishing schemes from people pretending to be Ebay or Paypal.
***shrugs*** those I just forward to the spoof department for the respective websites!
Those letters are pretty funny reads! LOL, they must get some play or else they would stop doing it right?

I haven't gotten one of those letters yet; I do get the usual "pass on to all your friends!" chain letters at least twice a week, which of course I delete upon notice.

when my friends used to send me those I'd just forward the message right back to then with "Return to Sender: this e-mail does not accept chain letters" above what they'd sent me.Kilre wrote:I haven't gotten one of those letters yet; I do get the usual "pass on to all your friends!" chain letters at least twice a week, which of course I delete upon notice.
Oddly enough people have stopped sending me those.

Ah...okay I misunderstood! LOL I don't even try to look at my spams...they either make me laugh until I can't breathe or they piss me off.RemusShepherd wrote: No, no, that's 100 that *don't* get through the filter. My mail's on a Linux box, so I have a way of looking at them if I feel the urge. About a dozen or so slip through every day and actually make it to my mailbox.
On my current email account I wouldn't even know where to go to look at suspect spams! LOL!
Heh to the "Erectile dysfunction" emails...those get through on occasion...if they do, or if I don't recognize the sender (or their email) I will usually block it. I keep wondering if I have blocked a friend or two doing that! Hmmmm
Here's hoping that the subject line is clear, and that you all stop getting dumb spams!
LOL!
