There are a few interesting issues there. I've probably talked about them before, but I'll elaborate once more.

First of all, we are attacked by all sides, from celebrity world, specially from fashion, with some scarily exagerated ideals of body, women who are simply too skinny and too flat to be attractive. Now, it is normal that most of men are attracted to what is considered a healthy thin body, but what has been sold to us is really awful. Looking at models on any fashion show, you reallise that average skinny woman can't fit in any of those models, least average not-skinny girl.
The result? There is only one female person I know (in real life) who I've never heard a word from about how she's too fat. Women are simply getting obsessed by it (although it's some men with creepy taste from force it on them), if she's thin is waist, she's going to claim she's fat in hips; If she's thin in hips, she's going to claim that she has a cellulite; If she doesn't have cellulite, she's going to claim that she has too big ankles or whatever.
Ironic thing is that we men like curvy women. We like when there's a difference in size of waist and hips. We like some meat on our girls. We like big booty. Charles Bukowsky used to describe his ideal women with "...she had this giant ass". And what we like is being apparently taken away from us by creepy fashion designers and by the fact that women are sometimes just too guilible.

Other thing that annoys me is modern world's obsession with healthy and macrobiotic food.
Now, to me healthy food is: a lot of fresh fruit and vegetable, a bit of every kind of food because various food have various kinds of vitamins and elements, and we need all of them so we need to eat all kinds of food. Also, food grown naturally, out of intensive agriculture ways, is healthier, chemical additives are generally bad, etc etc.
But I'm also aware that every bit of food contains something harmful for us too, or something that fattens us. There's no escape from it. Therefore, quitting on just one kind of food because "it's unhealthy" helps nothing, on the contraty.
Yet - I don't know how it is there, but where I live, people are obsessed with it. There are hundreds of magazines about healthy food, people are eating them up and believing everything that some half-arsed journalist is cranking up to till the end of his worktime, and I can rarely sit and lunch in company without someone mentioning which ingredient in my lunch should be avoided.

Third, I'm looking at strange behavious of people who think they know better than doctors. I see many people making some diets on their own, while it's well known that doing that without doctor's consent. I knew a girl who dies that way. I know a man who kept a diet of eating nothing but oranges.
There is some health risk in being overweighted, that's the true, and there are many social reasons why a person should try to get a few pounds off. But verious people have various metabolisms and various bone structures. A person with large bone structure will never be as thin as Twiggy, and a skin stretched over a large skeleton is not a nice sight.
Everyone should try to look their best with what the nature has given to them, be it big body, bald head, flat chest, thin arms, scar on a face or perpetual sacks under eyes.
Everyone likes seeing a pretty person and everyone likes to look pretty. But save for some extreme cases, with a little bit of care in choosing make-up, clothes and haircut, everyone can look pretty.

This week Ryan and I have indulged in all that is sinful down on the Lake.

Can you say Chili's, Cree Mee (dam good chili dogs!), and Mom's homecooking and Dad's totally awesome steaks.

Yeah, we be bad. But sometimes ya can say "screw it, I want Cree Mee!"

Monday it's back to being good for our health's sake. Our families are poster children for bad genes. Ya name it, we probably have someone in the family with it.

You know... I'm going to run down to safeway and buy 20$ in easter sugar stuff and eat it in one sitting. *pbbt*

And no Tynan, I bought the first case of KD back in ... Probably April of last year, and my mom bought the second case in Janurary... or maybe it was december. At any rate, there is still an entire case worth of it in the cupboard and I know which ones are which because there is an EXPIRY ... OMG.

Mmm, sugar! I like it so.

I guess I belong in here more than the other thread, since I start a diet, go about a day, and say, "Aw screw it, it's only 20 pounds or so that I'm overweight" and go on a junk food rampage.

Nanda wrote: For anyone who'd bored with all the dieting, calorie counting, negative body image, impossible standard of beauty propaganda, this thread's for you. Not that I begrudge people the right to try to stay fit and healthy - really, it's a noble aspiration - but I think that our country is far too focused on "correcting" our imperfections rather than learning to love ourselves and one another.
Bearing in mind that Ryan was not told 'You're fat and and don't fit society's definition of perfect', he was told 'Lose weight or die'. He can love himself all he wants, but if he wants to live he'll have to control his diet and lifestyle.

Here's what I find insulting: Being told by fat people that I'm thin because of my 'metabolism'. No, I'm thin because I work at it. I control my portion sizes, count calories, and ration out the amount of carbs I can eat each day. I exercise daily - Not heavily, but regularly - and I choose not to own a car so I don't have an excuse not to walk. Diabetes and heart conditions run in my family, and if I let it my metabolism will kill me before I reach 65. Note to fat people: You can do whatever you like and I won't lecture you about it, because it's honestly not my business - But stop teling me that my physical condition is due to factors beyond my control.

And before anyone says the obvious - Yes, I do get told "Oh, you're just naturally skinny. It must be nice to be able to eat whatever you want" a lot.

Dude, I don't care if you're skinny or not. I like skinny guys. I'm just tired of hearing people tell me about their diets...which is exactly what you just did...in my thread that was supposed to be a guilt-free zone. :-? I don't come into the calorie counting threads and rant, please afford me the same courtesy.

I find this whole thread almost as bad as a thread that says we need to be skinny. It's all pointless, insulting and dumb to someone. Can't please everyone. So I will just inform everyone here that I have a superior booty to everyone, and my "curves are kickin".

And as for Ian...I won't say it must be nice to have a good metabolism. I will say "It must be nice to be so motivated and ambitious." Because I'm not. I'm hella lazy. I wish I had the discipline you do.

And I'm cute!
Need me to kill someone? I'm a hired assasin in my spare time.

Maybe instead of being mad at fat people, which is rather arbitrary, Ian should be mad at a society that makes people hate themselves so much that they feel the need to envy skinny people and try to make them feel guilty about it. And I have a clue for you - for every overweight person having health problems, there's a skinny person having the exact same problems. It's not so much about size as it is about the percentage of muscle tone on your body. There are plenty of skinny, sedentary people who are in much worse shape than many overweight people. The amount of exercise a person gets is more important than their calorie intake any day. That said, I'm not in bad shape, and I'm still overweight. My blood pressure and cholesterol levels are fine - in a nutshell, I'm downright healthy. So there's no reason I can see, apart from societal conventions, that I should have to lose weight, and hence, I refuse to diet. Or be apologetic about it. So there.

Phh, I'm neither fat, nor do I really care what I eat cause I know it will make me sick if I go overboard (see sugar fix three posts or so up.) Yet at the same time, there are people that don't know that they are "obese", and just think they are overweight. Obesity is the actual problem, that's where you get into "big boned" vs "high metabolism" , One can be very muscular, but on the BMI index they are considered overweight, yet someone like myself who is not muscular, but not fat, but not tall either I fall right between "underweight" and "normal" depending if I'm 5'4 or 5'5, so I just don't give a damn and just instead subconsciously pick foods that are better for me more often. That "normal weight" plateau is like 10lbs.

Like, whole wheat bread instead of white. Whole Wheat saltines (which I actually find taste better) than white. Low-fat cheese (which I find tastes no different, meh) and whatnot. I may not be consuming more or less cabs, but at least I'm picking stuff that is better more often than 6 months ago.

So In defense of people who choose to be heavier, yes at least they have boobs and at least they don't need to be a slave to what society says is the norm. Some skinny people would rather be rather be a bit heavier because then they wouldn't be cold one moment and warm the next (like my current job... damn temperature fluctuations like mad...)

In defense of skinny people, some people are naturally skinny (as in don't need to develop an eating disorder, unlike some celebs), and people who weigh more shouldn' t be using skinny people as role models, because that's just a depressive situation. Someone who has been fat or obese since they were 12 is -NOT- going to magically turn into a 98lb skanky whore. The body grew to accomodate that weight and is not going to change even if the weight is lost. The most that someone larger is going to accomplish through hard work and exercise is to turn some of that weight into muscle, but then you need to keep working to maintain that muscle.

Nobody just "drops 20lbs" and suddently turns into a supermodel. Hell no. Most of the people we see as models in magazines are photoshopped to look that way.

The thing I wish skinny people would stop telling heavier people is that they look unattractive in anyway. Seriously. To me, it's specific "shapes" that I find unattractive, one of them is the "toothpick" another is the "obese to the point of looking like a ball" . The latter is just creepy in that I can't figure out how they fit through doors.

I'm going to stop this post here, because I made a creepy observation on the kinds of people my cousins marry...
