hey... I've always wondered: has anybody everythought of making a flash opening for the site? I dunno why: I keep getting this idea of like random author avatars in my head doing old school comic book things. Like Batman's 1970 show. BAM! POW! AUTHOR~! XD my mind works in mysterious ways.

so... yeah... thats all I got.

i think we all work in the same way ... i mean, i have this insane idea of doing a massive crossover "music comic" to Emerson, Lake & Palmer's "Karn Evil 9 (First Impression Part Two)" as a powerpoint

I think the current site design is perfect. Flash has all sorts of things that would be annoying, like how it's flash and it'd have to load, and I dunno. Why have an intro, the current main page is fine.

Ok, it wouldn't be funny.

There's also the factor that using Flash would turn away some prospective readers -- like people with dial-up or with computers that somehow don't support Flash.

Umm... yeah we all have never before heard of a "skip" button in a flash animation before.

I don't like the idea, and if we wanted one we'd have one already when we recently redesigned the site.

it's not in the animation. it's in the html. it provides a direct link to the opening site.

plus: it could be in the animation. try some zipper fish animation: skipping downloading is an awesome thing they do for dsl and cable people, and their have been a ton of skip intro buttons. it cuts the animation costs by either sending them on the autodirect route anyway or by sending them to a specific scene.

so never hearing of an skip intro is more or less your fault.

Dude, sarcasm. You can't exist on the internet without having seen an html link, or a in flash button that lets you skip an animation.

There's just no reason to have a flash animation open up our main page.

Personally, I tend to find flash intros to sites pretty annoying... In fact, I usually stop visiting those sites.

A flash intro for the sake of a flash intro is almost always a bad idea. Now, if your "flash intro" is the lead-in/preloader to a whole site done in flash, and it meshes well, then yeah, that can work.

For CG... make the animation, and post it for us forumites. :D
