It's NOT a pick-up chat! flirting is ok IF you have consent from teh other person, but keep it under PG-13 and if the others tell you to get a room, do so. elsewhere. *L* Some people are allowed more latitude on this point than others. Also, respect established couples. there aren't too many now, but a few.

*L* really, guys, it's not as strict as it seems, just ppl like angie and i have been there years and years, so we tend to be protective of it.

), and I want to comment on the Station 8 part of this thread. *L* This post will be for the Station 8 part.
Though there have been friendly messages too, it may look like the request for the location of the chat mainly resulted in many guns, a few surface-to-air-misiles and maybe a nuke or two being aimed, but I think it helps to look at it this way:
Angie's not on the front page said 800 people read the comic daily. Let's pick a random percentage and say those people read this message board, even if they just lurk. Let's say 5%. That's 40 people and that's a lot.Now, since none of us would want to yell at Angie's fans, least of all Angie herself, I think her 'better safe than sorry' approach was rather good. *l* Even if it does make us look like a happy little minefield.

Now, I have a few things to add myself. I am going to say all these things cause they have all been cause for misunderstanding or downright trouble in the past.First of all, should anyone decide to drop by, here's some important advice:LURK.To some people it's obvious, to some it is not, but it really helps to learn what goes on in the place before you jump in. Most of us STILL lurk when we're not chatting, though (I do know of one person who saw fit to 'fight' me cause he found out I was an 'evil no good radishbrained lurker'. He did not last very long at all after that incident, though. Lurking is GOOD. *l*)This also means that if people suddenly pop out of nowhere to tell you you're doing something wrong, don't be offended. They're lurkers trying to help. *l* Everyone can make mistakes, just don't continue making them.

We do have our own 'rules' and conventions, but they aren't written down anywhere. They are what we consider 'common sense rules', where the spirit is definately more important than the letter. As such, despite Angie's list, you just have to find out as you go along. We don't bite, unless provoked.

*L*Also, despite our enthusiasm, it is always possible there are regulars you can't get along with. No big deal, as long as you can fit through the same door...

Lastly, I've been using the word 'wrong'. I am not going to pretend that the way we're used to 'doing things' is the only proper way to do it. But it is our way and we like it. I don't think they're unreasonable demands, and if someone likes, for instance, RPs where we have to spend three hours cleaning the blood from the walls, that's no problem, but there are other places for that. *l*I hope the above sounded more encouraging than discouraging. We're always happy to receive people who know how to have fun and be fun, and it's really not like you're going to get in trouble for violating rule 74a from section III. As long as your willing to actually pay some attention to the people already there (which is, after all, the least one can ask for, really) there should be no problem. It would also help if you don't hate Gargoyles, of course.

Oh yeah! People have mentioned lists! I have a little section on my site with a bunch of stuff from Station 8 that made me laugh. You'll find them here:

I'm a mathematician, that is, I have the Dutch equivalence of an American Master's degree in mathematics, and I think I didn't really deserve it at all, but ah well... Oh, did I mention I'm dutch? *l*Currently I'm a programmer for a large Dutch Insurance Firm. And... I've already run out of things to say. I'm not a very interesting person I suppose. Oh, right, I met Angie about 18 months agoin, amazingly, the Station 8 chatroom (We'd both been there a lot longer, but at wildly different times of day), and was suitably impressed with her drawing skills. But I guess that's not really about me, is it?Oh, wait! I'm 26, male, and live in The Netherlands.

I'm not a common sense kind of person though and I have this nagging feeling (Rincewindian instincts) that if I turn up at that chat I'm going to lose a physical element vital to my well-being. ;> Intelligence ... yup, common sense ... not so sure.

You know, I think we scared everyone out of ever wanting to come to our chat. Honestly guys, it's not so bad. It's all common sense rules, it's just that the last 18 months there seemed to have been a significant drop in common sense.
