Say, Ms Mitya, I am wondering:
What exactly is the difference between a viola and a violin?
I hope you don't mind my stupid asking, but I don't know how to tell them apart, or what defines each one.
And I assmuse they sound differently too?

What she said, except tuned a FIFTH lower. And therefore not squeaky. And therefore much cooler.
Violins also have a thinner sound.

Well, I'm one of the musically inclined, and I'm not too sure on that either, so don't feel too bad.

I learned it at one point, when I was still taking piano lessons...so, O Mitya, does the interval include both the lower and higher notes, or just one? In other words, is C to E a second or third?

Mmf. I should be, like, getting to sleep at some point. Oh well.

Hookay, this is a bit hard to explain without audio, so bear with me.

Intervals (fourths, fifths, etc.) are basically the number of notes between the top note and the bottom note. Those are included.
C to E would be a third. A major third, in fact. Half steps have a lot to do with it, but you didn't ask about it.

Leesi--Fourths are an interval of four notes from bottom to top, and fifths have five notes. And so on. A fourth would be A to D, and a fifth would be A to E, for example. I'll tell you more about this when you start your viola lessons.

Does that make sense?

Yes...the cheese one's my favorite.

Actually, my license plate really does say "DSCH-J".
The reason for the J is that there was already another car in Virginia with a license plate that just said DSCH (!), so my dad (who got me the vanity plates) stuck the J in there, for the first letter of my name.

As for the violist bumper sticker, well, I'm still looking for one.

Why wait for one? Make your own with your very own make-your-own bumpersticker kit.
all you need is a piece of posterboard or paper or something, and that heavy duty clear tape and a permanant marker, and a catchy phrase.

For sale at your nearest store that sells those kinda things. (nifty little catch phrase not included)

But it shouldnt be to hard to think up some cool little sayings, and it doesnt take much to beat the ones already out there
