OK I am a newby artist.

I got the proportions part. (8 heads) down at the most
I just cant make shapes (hourglass, ovals) into body parts.

As soon as I get a scanner Ill show you what I can do ...

Just a little comment: I think you're wrong with the proportions, from what I readed, it was 7 heads and not 8.

But the proportions depend on the type of character you're drawing. A 'realistic' character is about 8 heads tall. Less realistic (or teenager) -- 7 heads. Cartoon characters and anime chibis may be 4-5 heads tall. Imposing superheroes might be 10 heads tall. Do what works best for you.

Depends on the style. I see characters that are 4-5 heads tall that are perfectly proportional.

'Heads' is relative, right?

Mine are about two heads tall. Maybe three. Unless they're human, in which case they vary wildly and never look close to right.

Normally, it's around:

5-6 heads for old people
6-7 heads for average adults
8 heads for well-built adults (often used as default, however)
9-10 heads for heroic characters (unrealistic, but not very noticeably so)
10-xx heads for superhuman characters.
3 apples for Smurfs.

'Funny' characters often have much larger heads, and some 'chibis' might actually end up being less than 2 heads tall.
