I need an advice....

Post by Hollowghoul »

Eight months ago I stopped drawing my webcomic.

Should I start to draw again? Will it be worth it?

I would like your opinions on this. Thank you.

Well is it something you want to do? I myself came off of hiatus recently, and it's mainly because I love doing my strip... even if it only makes me giggle it's all worth it... If it's a story you want to continue and you feel good about doing it then I say go for it.... but if it feels forced then I say why start what you'll end up hating and stopping again anyways...

It could always be time for a new comic...

If you want to do it, do it. I liked Ghoul and I look forward to seeing more of it. But it would suck if you did it only because a few people appreciate it.

In the webcomics world, where financial returns, fame, and interweb notoriety seldom arrive, the only motivation you can rely on is if you have fun doing it.

I consider my webcomic as a method to tell a story; this way appreciation, or deprecation, are important because they imply that someone is listening.
I do not expect money or fame, but I have told stories to myself for too long a time and I will not do it again. An audience of one is all I need to take pleasure in drawing a tale.

The short opinion: yes.

The long: Yes, if you want to. Don't do it if you don't want to. The best stories are the ones that are a joy to tell, not necessary because of context, but simply because they are satisfying. A forced story ain't gonna be a great one. You, as the storyteller, must WANT to tell it. If you really want to, then yes.

I recently went through a similar dilemma- where I was considering stopping my comic. I ended up deciding to keep going because 1. it keeps me sane, 2. as much as I get frustrated sometimes by a lack of response, I really do enjoy drawing, and particularly writing it, and 3. I realized how little attention all webcomics get and that mine really wasn't/isn't doing half bad.

I also realized that, if I were to stop, I would be terribly sad and could never really give up the story for dead, anyway.

That last one was probably the biggest for me. You may not function the same way as me in regards to your comic, but I think that if you really want to tell your story or let your characters be known or any other good reason you can think of combined with being willing to do the work you should totally bring it back.

My short answer is if you don't feel like doing it, don't bother. Which is pretty much the same as what warofwinds said, except I had to phrase it in the more pessimistic way : P

I assume you're not all that into it. If you really felt like doing it, why would care what we say? v(' ')v

I stopped my comic for a while because of personal things happening with me. And it stayed stopped for 17 months. But I'm back at it, because I missed doing it. Luckily I've found new readers, so if after 17 months I can get people, I'm sure after 8 you can. ^_^ If you miss doing it, and want to do it again, then by all means do it and don't let 8 months stop you.

I think I will resume drawing the comic in a few weeks, I have some other things to do.
Meanwhile, may I ask you if it is possible to customize the font in the webpage? I tried embedded fonts, but the majority of browsers will not accepted them.

Just put a font=" " in the body tag.

And, yeah, sure, why not.

But that will not work if the font specified is missing in the viewer's computer.

Will this work?

Yes. All sorts of places use Cascading Style Sheets extensively - I know Livejournal does, and it seems to work find for them, eh?
