Yay! Revive the Naruto thread.

Shikamaru and the genin, was that the Sasuke Retrieval arc?

I like both the anime and the manga, but actions sequences are much better animated but take so long in the anime.

SPOILER EPISODES... 50+ or something.

Did anyone else feel like stabbing their eyes out during the invasion of Konoha, 'specially the Hokage battle. That took far too long. I cheered when he died. Not that I was glad he was dead, just that fight.

Duuuude. Now this is thread necromancy. Not that anyone cares in this forum.

AND GODS YES.

*spoiler alert, I guess* The Hokage battle had, like, six episodes of the two just standing facing eachother, spurting off cheesy lines about saving the village. I just kept turning to my roommate and saying "What, he's not dead YET?" Fortunately, we were getting our episodes off of Youtube, so we were able to watch all the invasion episodes back to back.

I have to say, though. The Gaara story makes me go "Awwww" more than any other anime I've watched. I love that angsty little preteen.

And I agree that the action scenes are MUCH clearer in the anime. Then again, the anime tends to spend too much time explaining how so-and-so performed insert-jutsu-here. The manga can get away with that, but the anime just gets annoying.
This is going in my notebook titled "Things I Didn't Know about Surface Dwellers."

*laughs* I did the opposite when SPOILER Uchiha Itachi came to town. At the end of that arc I was going, 'What? 5 episodes? Don't we usually get a 10 episode long fight?" but I probably only really enjoyed that arc due to the lack of a 10 episode long fight.

Gaara had a really screwed up childhood. There's like this ongoing battle between the characters as to whom had the most traumatic past.

Well, I guess if this thread is alive again, it won't hurt to say a few words.
Although I do like Naruto, I am somewhat glad I didn't watch any of it till a few months ago. Without blasting through the 200-ish episodes at nearly painful speed, I doubt I would have enjoyed it at all. The reason is simple: there just isn't much per episode in terms of story or plot development. There's so much filler in there that you pretty much need to watch a whole plot arc at a time if you want to get any plot whatsoever. Case in point, I'm up to date on it now, and haven't actually seen the main villian in what, thirty episodes or so? Still, it isn't bad if you're willing to wait a few months and binge-watch big chunks.

I very much enjoy Naruto. But I hate the filler episodes. Of course, without them the anime would catch up with the manga, and we'd have no new episodes for quite awhile. :-?

If you want a pretty good manga/anime read/watch One Piece. It's not super cliche, and it's about pirates. :D
But don't watch the Anime...ever.

The subbed version seems pretty painful too.

Anyway, yay! Fillers are over in February. Now on to the <spoilers>Akatsuki vs. Gaara</spoilers>

Eh, you punk. I gotta wait until the 24th to watch 263. Well, maybe I can find a free crunchyroll code on reddit.
