Okay... America isn't being original.
If this topic was already mentioned, I'm sorry.
Have you noticed???!!! America is stealing anime! Cartoons are gradually getting more and more sweatdrops!!! And then cartoons are getting those big eyes... The worst is 'totally spies'... It's so obvious.
And WHY are they doing this?! For money! Kids are all psyched out about Anime and the Japanese, so the Americans have to imitate it to make kids THINK it is Anime, so more kids would watch it! THEN they would get more people watching their stupid shows! See?! It's all horrid, I say! HORRID!!!
What's worse is all of the American cartoons we all know and love are fading away!!! Slowly! I bet in about 20 years, Anime will completely take over America!!!
Don't get me wrong; I absolutely love anime!!! I just think that Japan should make THEIR own stuff as Americans should do vice-versa. I don't know why all the Americans are trying to copy off of them... They're not as funny, and their ideas are poor... It gets me slightly annoyed. Or VERY annoyed.
What do you think?

smells faintly idiotic. styles that are popular are always the ones that get used. theres plenty of US stuff coming out thats NOT anime styled, hell, theres LOADS.
and most of it is shit, and most of the american anime style stuff is shit.
and while were at it. most anime is shit.
and most TV is shit
wherever its from
but to try and segregate who can and who cant do, or who should and shouldnt do X style of art is idiotic. popular styles will ALWAYS be copied. its the way of... people.

Meh, I guess so.
There may be loads of American styled stuff, but there's also loads of Anime. It's like I'm flipping through my channels and this is all I see: "totally spies", "code lyoko", "Super monkey team hyper force go", "Teen Titans"
I mean... Seriously.
And American cartoons are getting less funnier. LOADS less funnier.

I don't see Americans drawing in the Japanese style as wrong per say, though I might just be saying that cause I have a animeish style. But what I hate is the cooperations doing it just cause they belive it's what's cool, and only do it for that sake. Totally Spies, Teen Titans, ect. I draw animeish because I grew up reading manga and it's how I learned to do comics. I hate it when it's done for shallow reasons, and they don't actually know anything about it and sterotype it complete, and just helps give the anime style a bad rap. But I suppose everyone is allowed to make whatever they want, alot of it will probably sucky either way.

Teen Titans really shocked me. It was the first show I watched when I got cable back after a 3 year hiatus. The theme song alone made ME want to emit a sweatdrop. n_n;;

What he said. Integration of different styles is bound to happen over time. But when somehthing is "anime-style" just for the sake of trying to be cool, or whatever... *shudders*EmergencyExit wrote:I don't see Americans drawing in the Japanese style as wrong per say, though I might just be saying that cause I have a animeish style. Teen Titans is the worst offender I've seen personally, though I don't doubt that there are others.
And cartoons are getting less funny because they're trying (badly) to be all deep and angsty to try appealing to older audiences.

Invader Zim would be an expection to that rule, along with Avatar: The Last Airbender. Zim was gritty, but hilarious. Avatar is like anime, but not annoying. So, while there are expections, it's not enough to help the situation overall.ManyWorlds wrote:What he said. Integration of different styles is bound to happen over time. Also, don't bash America bringing anime over, just cause you should have seen this coming once Astroboy became so popular. :p

According to Retrojunk, it was co-produced in both America and Japan.TdotOdot2k wrote:Transformers was an anime? Huh. I always thought it was made in America.

Um...
Dang. Forgot what I was wont to say.
Oh, yeah. You know how America's kinda catching on to the while "Ooooh JAPAN!!!$!$" thing? (There's even a "history of anime musem" somewhere, with old librarian-ladies managing it. Seriously, WTF? What do they watch? I don't even want to know... anyway) Japan has the whole "OMFG! AMERICAA!!!!!" thing going. I'm sure there are plenty of Japanese whining about how their country is being so unoriginal and imitating the Americans. (Their smaller statue of liberty comes to mind...).
So yeah. It goes both ways. I feel sorry for the Japanese... they get the shitty art.
... And "real" anime isn't really shown on American TV. Maybe on CN's Adult Swim, but other than that... you're not gonna find anything really un-depressing.
Unless you get the anime network. Which I don't. So I don't know what that's like.

Due, anime was originally inspired by western comics, so why not vise versa now that we're down the road a ways? Sure, I have no doubt that making money is a serious concern...but it's always going to be since, y'know, companies are there to make money. But that's not all it is. Sure, there are things like Code Lyoko which is like a bad copy of bad anime. But there are shows, I think, that use anime elements yet adapt it to their own style. I'd say Teen Titans would be one of these, though I actually don't care much for the show in general. But I recognize that that's just me, rather that it being inherintly crappy.

I agree with what was said about Cartoon Network shows. You know what I haven't seen in entirely too long? Johnny Bravo. Sure, it was about a blonde musclebound womanizer, but I loved that show.
I don't agree, however, with the idea that American animation is 'stealing' anime. What will you say next? All those other countries who have some form of Disney World have stolen Disney from us? That includes Tokyo. Don't they have a Tokyo Disney World or something like that?
That the girl sitting next to you at school who is wearing the same brand of jeans as you has stolen your style?
Just about every form of popular culture that exists has been deviated from something else. No creative process is purely original. I mean, come on, most of the people who post on the Comic Genesis forums actually have a webcomic. And I don't think that any of us can say that we've never been inspired by someone else's work. We may take some idea, and twist it, and make it our own, but it's still inspiration from an outside source. And that is what the makers of these American anime-style cartoons have done. They took something that was popular and made it their own. Maybe this was a bad idea altogether. I don't know. Teen Titans wasn't my idea. All I can say that it is a popular show, as are many of the American anime-style cartoons that are being shown. So it obviously works.
Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery. If you don't want to watch anime-style American cartoons, no one ever said you had to.
Why don't you find something more productive to do with your time? It's not like one rant on a forum will get to the directors of the bad American cartoons and they'll have a change of heart. Not likely.
