Of course they don't see it as wrong. Would a Canuck or American bat an eye at an American/Canuck cosplaying as an English WWII officer?
That aside...while there are plenty of animes with underlying Nazi or Japan getting nuked in WWII, I have yet to see one that makes reference to the Italians...
Think of it: Three Italian privates in Ethiopia/North Africa, trying to avoid any sort of work as well as getting shot. Throw in a half-retarded monkey as a side kick and you've got comedy gold.

I always figured Grueber for the Mister Humphries type... y'know, they never actually come out and SAY he's gay, there's just copious insinuations, and every so often they'll throw you a curve to keep you guessing.Krazy Krow wrote:Similar to it. Lt. Grueber was hilarious too. He was a gay nazi in love with the lead character.

By the way, a comment not on Britcoms, since I made a topic just for those...
Why is there this innate desire to associate Asuka with Nazi stuff just because she's German? It kinda annoys me. I mean, I have this one really great fanart pic of Asuka in my collection. The art is GREAT, the pose is GREAT, Asuka is GREAT... and she's got a Swastika tattooed on her arm.
It annoys me, because nothing I tell myself about it not mattering seems to work. Every time I'm browsing my gallery and come on that pic, I enjoy it for like, two seconds before my eyes track right to her upper arm. Blammo. enjoyment destroyed.

As I mentioned, the Japanese don't have the same hang-ups over Naziism that Westerners do. WWII isn't taught that well in schools, and the part that is is taught solely as history with no moral lesson. As a result, WW2 German military stuff is geeked over in that schoolboy way with no inhibitions.
Heck, the band Dir En Gray dressed up as Nazis for a music video!
Of course, point taken. Germany and Nazi Germany aren't interchangeable. But be prepared for a shock if you ever visit the orient, there are swastikas all over temples. Backwards swastikas, but still the familar bent cross. It's a fairly old symbol.

I wouldn't really be shocked. I'm aware that it's a very old symbol, and appears in art from various time periods all over the world. I think one of its uses I've heard of did start in Germany before it was even Germany, as a representation of Thor swinging his hammer.Krazy Krow wrote:But be prepared for a shock if you ever visit the orient, there are swastikas all over temples. That's also one of the things I try to tell myself so I can enjoy the pic. Still doesn't work.
