Out of curiosity

Post by Ryunaker »

This is off-topic (although it will PROBABLY come up in this comic, the way it's going, and off-topic has never been frowned on before that I've seen), but I have a question to pose to you all.

Call me a student of humanity, if you will :P. This is not for any class, however, just for my own curiosity. You'll find I'm often pensive.

Based on the following hypothetical situation, what would you do?:

You see before you something happening, IE a power building. It could bring great good, or it could bring great evil. You do not know which. And by the time you can find out, it will be too late to back out on what you decide now. However, you can stop it now. What would you do? Stop it? Or let it continue, and see what happens? And why?

I've never understood the Good/Evil thing. Would it be safe to assume Good is generally beneficial to many people and and evil is some sort of disaster for many people? Anyway I doubt I'd try to stop it though I mught try to limit it. I'm generally curious about things and would like to see how it turns out.

That's basically the idea (on the meaning of good/evil in this context).

Well, as any master of the universe knows, you would generally try to INFLUENCE that power to your own will, be it for good or evil. In accordance to the regular plot-style theme, I'd use it to make something really important and therefore start a long chain of events that would lead to an alternate universe that would appear to us as a new cartoon series, video game or related article.

Just let it happen.

First you observer, then you deduct, then you (try to) repeat.
"All your base belong to me ..Hahaha"
"But ... but ... I own you!"
"Sadly yes."
"So all my base still belong to Mehehehe "

Are you trying to tell people here about that 'gathering presence' that I hear about in other forums? O.o

I'd try to stay close to it, and be in a position so that, by the time I found out if it was truly good or ill, that I could do something about it.

...Of course, if I were the government, I would just do what all governments do: let it happen, and if it's bad, wait a few years, then conduct a study on the repercussions which will promptly be ignored, and blame it all on whoever held office before me/the opposition party.

Try to influence it so it will be good instead of bad... :D

Wait, did you say the government? As if! Have you ever seen the movie 'Mercury Rising'? (If you haven't, don't bother) They would destroy it ten times over and then do a cover up story. This is a very common fear that many people have of things that don't fit in with their (boring) everyday life. In my opinion, strange things should be accepted and used in a good cause, instead of everyone starting a "witch hunt" about it.

Now where was I? Ah yes, new strange things often starts a plot happening. If it were to turn out good, it might become a ruling power of good, or a secret hidden power somewhere. This would cause evil to try and steal this power, therefore calling apon a hero. If it were to be bad, the world would be under the power of evil, and again would call for a hero to rid them of this evil. It's kinda like my signature...
