Proportions of the Rac'Cona Daimh

Post by Wanderwolf »

I was just running the Leonardo da Vinci calculation for proportion, and figured I'd run it through the average Rac'Conan sizes. Assuming an average size of 2'6", the average Rac'Cona Daimh:

... has a pace of 15 inches.

... stands three heads in height; this is actually a smaller proportion than a baby human, which is typically four heads in length.

... when lying down, has a profile of only 3.333 inches above the ground (not counting the muzzle).

... has a hand 3.333 inches in length, of which roughly half (1.666) is made up of the fingers starting from the knuckle.

... has a head 10 inches in height, with ears adding another three inches to that.

... has shoulders roughly 7 inches wide (7.5, to be exact).

... has a tail roughly ten inches in length, falling from the base of the spine to mid-calf.

Looking at the strip, and making a few judicious calculations:

A stool for a Rac'Cona Daimh would be roughly 5 inches in height, to coincide with the height of the knee.

A chair for a Rac'Conan would total 15 inches in height, giving a back that rises to the shoulder; for one that comes up completely behind the head, like Gilder's, add another three inches. The arms of the chair would be roughly 5 inches long, giving a seat depth of 5 inches as well.

A table for a Rac'Conan should stand roughly 7 inches in height, to judge by Gilder's "conference table"; when standing, it almost reaches their hips, which is a good size for a table.

A Rac'Conan staircase should have risers no more than 4 inches in height as a rule; any larger and the steps become hard for them to climb. (The steps are likewise four inches deep, slightly more than a Rac-Conan foot.)

(Nothing like checking the archives to see that Ralph made the Indiana Quentyn pic. :D )

Looking at the doorway behind Quentyn and Master Rillcreek on 4/23, it looks almost human-sized... roughly 60 inches, twice a Rac'Conan's height. Of course, it has to be, otherwise that luftship would've never fit through...

The door of Quentyn's hut on 4/22 looks rather more typical; roughly 45 inches. (Master Rillcreek's staff looks to be about 42 inches long in the picture.)

A Rac'Conan's foot looks to measure roughly 4 inches, giving them (in human terms) a shoe size of 6-10 infant.

Now, a minor comparison of human to Rac'Conan:

A 2'6" Rac'Conan standing next to an average-sized 5'10" human male would be slightly taller than the human's knee.

Where a Rac'Conan's chair would be 5 inches tall and 5 inches deep, the corresponding sizes in a human chair are 22" and 12". A Rac'Conan sitting in a human chair wouldn't even reach the edge of the seat with his feet, and would have to climb into it to start with... it's as high as his chin!

A human table is roughly 3 feet tall; a Rac'Conan would barely brush the underside with his ears.

The average human's hand is about 7.8 inches long... That's more than twice the size of a Rac'Conan's hand, and nearly twice as big as a Rac'Conan foot.

Quentyn's sword, Wildcard, has a handle roughly 2 inches in circumference. A human-sized sword would have a handle roughly 4 inches around; a Rac'Conan would need to use both hands just to pick it up!

Sorry, just felt like providing useles information today. 8-)

Yours truly,

The numerical,

Wanderer

P.S.: On a different numerical matter, here's Quentyn's numerology:
Your number is: 8

The characteristics of #8 are: Practical endeavors, status oriented, power-seeking, high-material goals.

The expression or destiny for #8:
Your Expression is represented by the number 8. The 8 Expression is well-equipped in a managerial sense. You have outstanding organizational and administrative capabilities. You have the potential for considerable achievement in business or other powerful positions. You can expect to receive the financial and material rewards. You have the skill and abilities to establish or operate a business with great efficiency. You have good judgment when it comes to money and commercial matters, and you understand how to build and accumulate material wealth. Much of your success (or lack of it) may come due to your ability (or inability) to judge character. With the number 8 Expression, you exercise sound judgment in most of your affairs; you are realistic and practical in your approach to business matters.

The positive 8 Expression produces individuals that are very ambitious and goal-oriented. If the 8 energy is not in excess in your makeup, you will no doubt express these traits to some extent. No one has any more energy that a person with the 8 Expression who has a plan laid and is starting to work. No one has any more self-confidence, either. If you are expressing the positive qualities of 8, you are an outstanding manager because you can plan, initiate, and complete projects; you are very dependable and determined.

As it always happens, there can be too much of a good thing. If you have too much of the 8 energy in your makeup, you may express some of the negative attitudes. A negative 8 can be very rigid and stubborn. Ambition sometimes has a way of becoming over-ambition, and you may express an unreasonable impatience with the lack of progress. If your negative side is showing, you may be too exacting, both of yourself and of others. Sometimes this can even becomes a case of intolerance.

The number 8 is very materialistic and also very desirous of status and power. Neither of these drives are inherently negative unless they are taken to an extreme. You must avoid the tendency to strain after money, material matters, status, or power, to the detriment of the other important factors in your life.

Your Soul Urge number is: 8

A Soul Urge number of 8 means:
With an 8 soul urge, you have a natural flair for big business and the challenges imposed by the commercial world. Power, status and success are very important to you. You have strong urges to supervise, organize and lead. Material desires are also very pronounced. You have good executive abilities, and with these, confidence, energy and ambition.

Your mind is analytical and judgment sound; you're a good judge of material values and also human character. Self-controlled, you rarely let emotions cloud judgment. You are somewhat of an organizer at heart, and you like to keep those beneath you organized and on a proper track. This is a personality that wants to lead, not follow. You want to be known for your planning ability and solid judgment.

The negative aspects of the 8 soul urge are the often dominating and exacting attitude. You may have a tendency to be very rigid, sometimes stubborn.

Your Inner Dream number is: 9

An Inner Dream number of 9 means:
You dream of being creative, intellectual, and universal; the selfless humanitarian. You understand the needy and what to help them. You would love to be a person people count on for support and advice.
By comparison, here's mine:
Your number is: 7

The characteristics of #7 are: Analysis, understanding, knowledge, awareness, studious, meditating.

The expression or destiny for #7:
Thought, analysis, introspection, and seclusiveness are all characteristics of the expression number 7. The hallmark of the number 7 is a good mind, and especially good at searching out and finding the truth. You are so very capable of analyzing, judging and discriminating, that very little ever escapes your observation and deep understanding. You are the type of person that can really get involved in a search for wisdom or hidden truths, often becoming an authority on whatever it is your are focusing on. This can easily be of a technical or scientific nature, or it may be religious or occult, it matters very little, you pursue knowledge with the same sort of vigor. You can make a very fine teacher, or because of a natural inclination toward the spiritual, you may become deeply emerged in religious affairs or even psychic explorations. You tend to operate on a rather different wavelength, and many of your friends may not really know you very well. The positive aspects of the 7 expression are that you can be a true perfectionist in a very positive sense of the word. You are very logical, and usually employ a quite rational approach to most things you do. You can be so rational at times that you almost seem to lack emotion, and when you are faced with an emotional situation, you may have a bit of a problem coping with it. You have excellent capabilities to study and learn really deep and difficult subjects, and to search for hidden fundamentals. At full maturity you are likely to be a very peaceful and poised individual.

If there is an over supply of the number 7 in your makeup, the negative aspects of the number may be apparent. The chief negative of 7 relates to the limited degree of trust that you may have in people. A tendency to be highly introverted can make you a bit on the self-centered side, certainly very much self-contained . Because of this, you are not very adaptable, and you may tend to be overly critical and intolerant. You really like to work alone, at your own pace and in your own way. You neither show or understand emotions very well.

Your Soul Urge number is: 11

A Soul Urge number of 11 means:
With the 11 Soul Urge, much of your thinking and interests relate to the abstract, the spiritual, and utopian dreams. You are motivated toward idealistic concepts, and the sharing of your ideas and concepts with humanity. This number is not one that is giving in a material or a practical sense, but rather one who desires to help mankind with a more abstract commodity such as religion, spiritualism, occult studies, or even psychic abilities.

If you possess the positive 11 Soul Urge traits, you have a dream of the perfect world; you are highly idealistic and inspirational. Your inner strength and devotion to your beliefs are extremely strong. You have a very good mind that is especially well equipped to handle the higher, more abstract forms of thought.

If there is an excess of 11 energy in your makeup, you may possess some the negative 11 traits. There is a tendency for the 11 to produce considerable amounts of nervous tension which is bought on by a very high level of awareness. You may be too sensitive and overly emotional. In some cases, these sensitivities and emotions are quite repressed, and this tends to add even more to the sense of nervousness in the makeup.

The strong 11 is not a very practical person because of the extreme idealism; often, there is a degree of self-deception present. There is usually a rather fixed idea of right and wrong held by those showing strong 11 traits, and with this very often is a resulting attitude of inflexibility.

Your Inner Dream number is: 5

An Inner Dream number of 5 means:
You dream of being totally free and unrestrained by responsibility. You see yourself conversing and mingling with the natives in many nations, living for adventure and life experiences. You imagine what you might accomplished.

Wow, well now I know. Now I could see myself standing next to a Raccona-Diehm and feel it being more accurate.

And how did you determine tail length? I don't think that was in Da Vinci's proportions.

Hooolleeee ... how in the world did you figure all that out from just an estimation of their height?? :o

i had a feeling that they were a little taller than 2'6" though, from http://npc.comicgenesis.com/d/20040905.html they look to reach well over the kneeling priest's knee and i think i recall them being listed as 3' for average adult height (with quentyn at only 2')

I'm not sure, but if that Da Vinci calculations were based off HUMAN proportions, the measurements might be a tad off.

Average height of the racconans is 2.5, 3 feet being the general upper limit.
Quentyn is about 2 feet tall.

Remember, the image of the meeting of the two clerics is a mental image by racconans who have never personally met a human....

Also, remember that during the medieval period humans were on average a good bit shorter than today (due to nutrition and other issues.) average height was, I believe, somewhere between 4 and 5 feet. (whereas the racconans enjoy a much better standard of living....)

http://npc.comicgenesis.com/d/20060222.html This might present a more accurate proportion of racconan to human.
