WOW!!! This is so cool! I urge everyone to visit http://disney.go.com/disneypictures/narnia/lb_main.html and look at the new LWW trailer. It looks amazing.

Yes, sir. I agree completely. It takes a well-balanced individual... such as yourself to rule the world. No, sir. No one knows that you were the third one... Solidus. ...What should I do about the woman? Yes sir. I'll keep her under surveillance. Yes. Thank you. Good-bye...... Mr. President.

I am not worried about the special effects or the directing - it is the story itself. I pray they do not try to update the story for "modern" sensabilities.

Ah, I was wondering when you would show up Narnian, and I bare good news. Although Disney is handling distribution and some other details, Walden Media is handling the actual production. Walden Media are the guys who made the first series of Narnian films back in the late 80's. They were pretty faithful to the story and its influences. Walden Media makes several family and Christain friendly films: Jacob Have I Loved, The Narnian films, and Because of Winn-Dixie. The fact that Walden is producing it in the first place, makes me happy because of their track record for good films. Not only that, I heard that the producers are promising to remain faithful to the story, including the Christain influence.

Anyway, it looks to me to be a good film, faithful to the story and its maker. Have a good night everyone, and GOD bless. Go see the preveiw, it's playing before Star Wars.

Here is something that I found on narniaweb.com:

Is this going to be a secularized Hollywood version or will C.S. Lewis

I heard that he started out as an athiest and tried to write some suff to disprove christianity and/or religion in general, and ended up converting himself!

I don't know where I heard it and I readilly admit that the infromation could be wrong, but it is something to talk about.

I have been following the film plans for a while and even exchanged some emails with Douglas Gresham a few years ago over the prospects of the movie so I am hopeful, but knowing Disney I won't be convinced until I see the movie.

I'm not back; I'm just spying. What can I say - Narnia and/or C.S. Lewis will always catch my attention.
But...
Lewis writes about how he came to faith in Surprised by Joy - fun read (okay, so i always think Lewis is a fun read). I don't remember all the details, but basically, Lewis has a nominal childhood faith, but through the course of his school years became an athiest. I don't remember him having expressly set out to disprove Christianity (wish I had the book at hand to check), but he did through a rather slow and gradual course become convinced first that there was a God and then that Christianity was true.
One person I know did set out to disprove Christianity and came to faith through that was Josh McDowell.
Okay, got to run.
P.S. I'm really looking forward to the Narnia movies, too.

From what I understand CS Lewis was a contemporary of Tolkien and one basically led the other to Christ and that had a definite impact on both authors' works.

Sir William Ramsay (sp?) sought to disprove the new testament through the book of Acts of the Apostles. Since that book contained names and places that were lost through history he decided that they never existed. Therefore he spent many years sailing around the Mediterreanean in an effort to show that there was no archaeological evidence to back up Acts. When he was finished with his work, he promptly converted to christianity and wrote a book regarding the historicity of the bible.

Lew Wallace was going to write a book criticizing the bible, but out of fairness decided that he would read the book before tearing it apart. After he was done he abandoned his original project and instead wrote Ben Hur.

I believe there are several similar stories throughout time and it is difficult to keep many of the similar ones straight.

Hollywood kept fairly true to the spirit of The Lord of the Rings. The Passion of the Christ was a stunning success despite the fact that it was touted as an anti-semitic hate film. If what Madmoonie says is true then I have high hopes for Narnia. Perhaps Hollywood will learn that it doesn't have to gut a good stoy to make it work...

Then again,...

I wouldn't worry too much, most of the denizens of this forum fall into the conservative christian bent (or are at leaast tolerant or sympathetic to it) Simple factoid errors are forgivable.

However, if you had writen something along the lines of...

"Its too bad that Michael Moore didn't do Narnia, he could have turned it into a winderful statement. He could have cast GW as the Ice Queen and Bill Clinton in the role of Aslan (sp?)"

THAT :o kind of statement would have required a deep hiding hole indeed!
