"How the heck do I USE it?"
This reminded me of in instance that occured in college. I sat through a lecture in Calculus where the lecturer detailed Green's Theorem, how it was derived, proving that it was true, etc.
He then assigned us a list of problems to solve using it.
Excuse me, but showing me how a bulldozer is built doesn't tell me how to use it!
It was at that moment that I realized that a Mathematics Major was not for me.

you stick the point end into the bad guys chest.
Yes, sir. I agree completely. It takes a well-balanced individual... such as yourself to rule the world. No, sir. No one knows that you were the third one... Solidus. ...What should I do about the woman? Yes sir. I'll keep her under surveillance. Yes. Thank you. Good-bye...... Mr. President.

No fair, you beat me to it!
I've actually been thinking about that quote since someone posted a remark about a label on the sharp end...

Maybe in Moving Pictures?
Or maybe in one of the books with Rincewind?
AAARGH!
Now I just have to read through all of them until I find a siimilar quote, and of course, once you open one of his books, you can't put it down until you've read it through...
(And for once I had plans for the weekend... )

What Quentyn means, of course is:
How do I control the spell that comes out?

This also solves one of the mysteries of the series: why the sword gave the wrong time during testing.
Everyone knows that the fancier a gadget is, the harder it is to set the clock.
I suspect that eventually the sales pitches annoyance value will pale to insignificance compared the the purple swords habit of constantly blinking 12:00 12:00 12:00
I've got my computer and my vcr set right(ish). My DVD player, my stereo, and that thing in the corner that keeps buzzing i give up on.

You can fool some of the people all of the time
And all of the people some of the time
But you can't fool all of the people all of the time.

Sounds familiar.
"Hey mom, I got you this new DVD player for your anniversary!"
"Oh, you shouldn't have..."
"It has (cut long explanation of all the technical features of this particular DVD player--suffice to say it was pretty expensive)"
"Ok...so how do I use it?"
It was about that point I realized I should have just gotten them some cheap $75 model from Wal-Mart.

I'm usually good at figuring that stuff out. I'm able to decipher the manual most of the time. I can program the darn thing well enough.
However, my VCR/DVD player combo apparently didn't need it. At least, I don't think it needs to be, 'cause it's not covered in the manual...
All I know is that when we set it up, me and grandma were in the room, I was lookin' in the manual... next thing I know, I'm looking at the clock and I notice the time is set.
And neither one of us did anything.
That was a bit of a freaky moment for both of us... self-programming clock...

I'm lost. I've gone to find myself. If I should return before I get back, please ask me to wait. Thanks.
