My son's letter to Santa (on topic!)

Post by WolfFur »

My 10yo son's letter to Santa Claus (no, I don't think he really believes anymore, but he's not taking chances) was written the same day I introduced him to TotQ. He thought that from the November 19, 2003 fanstrip by Rob Powell that there was an actual Questor video game, and it was at the top of his wish list! Although he's dissapointed that there is no such thing, he's still entranced by Quentyn's adventures.

Thank you, RH, for producing a quality webcomic which I can actually enjoy with my children.

Wow, that'd be so cool, wouldn't it? I have an idea about how one could be made, but don't have the time now to try it out. I remember playing around with some freeware programs in DOS, an RPG-maker program. I don't know if they have an updated version for Windows XP, but that would be interesting. Anyway, maybe someone could design levels or make sprites ahead of time.

**Caution: dreamer fox approaching**

What if Squaresoft decided to make a Final Fantasy game based on Tales of the Questor, along the same lines as their other two games, "Super Mario RPG" and "Kingdom Hearts?" During the fighting scenes, controlling Quentyn would be fun, and for a side-game, you could have an artifactory simulator, where Kestrel could make weapons and equipment upgrades. I would have Nobuo Uematsu compose the music for it. And of course, Nip and Tuck would have to make cameo appearances somewhere in it.

Squaresoft bah! Cool ideas, though, Fox.

Working Designs! Grandia II, Lunar Silver Star Story... :D

I want that tabletop RPG baaaaad. Not sure if I'd make an Archivist (conspiracy! conspiracy!) or an Artifactor, though. *Kestrel with goggles*

... I need to make ToTQ icons that we can use on the boards...

Kiriath, makes icons on occasion

The people here have a...surprisingly good taste in videogames.

Definitely a SO2-esque battle. Four characters all in the party if http://npc.keenspace.com/d/20040723.html is any indication (maybe the kid from http://npc.keenspace.com/d/20040729.html could be an optional char).

Weapons would be tricky. Of course, the main two ideas are balance and uniformity. They're all upgraded in the same way, be it through buying new weapons, upgrading the old ones through some sort of Lux infusion process, or simply having strength and abilities be completely dependent on other factors, making the weapons technically "just for show."

Although Nobuo Uematsu would be just...grand as the composer, I think I'd also consider Yoko Shimomura, the woman who did LoM's music. I think her style would mesh with the TotQ universe and settings like no one else's would.

The other aspects (graphics and voice acting) are really of no concern to me.

I'm thinking of more of a puzzle-type game.

"Story" games are nice, but once you've beaten the last boss... what's left except to wait for the sequel?

:o NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

Do not speak of such evil here! Mine eyes have seen horrors thou shalt never know, things which make strong men quiver in mortal dread!

Away with thee, troublemaker! We have no wish to call down those fiends upon on quiet community! Begone!

(only kidding, but please don't mention that again, okay?)
I'm lost. I've gone to find myself. If I should return before I get back, please ask me to wait. Thanks.

What? You mean horrible script format, bad grammar and spelling, yaoi, pairings that make no sense, yuri, yaoi, lemon, horrible plot exposition and narrative, bland descriptions, and...oh yeah, yaoi?

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say I've seen worse.

Worse? You must have one -heck- of a sanity check if you can still communicate coherently after that....

=P I'll bet. I can't imagine what could be worse than what you listed... so I'll stick to the safe(r) parts of the internet where I roam.

Wonder if a +7 Spellchecker would keep the riffraff out of town...

You don't have to imagine it -- just do a search for "kirk spock slash fiction" sometime. Believe me, this is nothing new; the only difference is the means of distribution...

There are some good fan-fictions out there, though. Smuggler's Baloo, for instance, is a good example of a TaleSpin fanfic written by a fan who actually respects the source material... (Frankly, if Disney had any sense, they'd get in touch with this guy, option the rights to the story, and turn it into the TaleSpin feature film fans of the show have long been demanding. But of course, Disney's given ample evidence over the last decade that, to quote Raiders of the Lost Ark, "they have not one brain among them.")

Oh, there are MANY good fanfictions. It's just that, for every one GOOD one, there are a hundred crappy ones. What's great is when you find a good fanfic, then find the webpage of the author. Then you tend to get an archive of really good fics.

I just bought a PC rpg called Morrowwind, and it comes with a fantasic level editor. I'll be playing around with the idea of creating a Rac Cona Daimh character, though it really won't be complete unless I can find an NIF artwork file of a racoon body.
