To make a long story short, all Santa cares about is actions - intent plays a much smaller role. And for all overt purposes, Steve was being very generous with his time and resources to make and give Charles all that marzipan, and engineer the total marzipan experience (TM).
Charles, on the other hand, is guilty of gluttony.
Furthermore, SANTA is an anagram of SATAN, and an ill-hidden one at that. And he dresses in red. And he takes bribes. Of marzipan.

Satan is only an anagram in the English speaking world, so it is obviously not true, if it were then Santa would be encouraging greed, gluttony, anger, envy, ummm, never mind....
