Wow... Knowing that an author often develops a kind of parental love for their characters, doing this strip must have been, to be frank, nearly impossible.
To actually affect your readers on a personal level, elicit emotions, and even physical reactions, is the most valuable ability any author could ever hope to posess.
dDave, congratualtions. You have done all of the above. As far as I'm concerned, you're a success.
Thanks for taking the time to read my little "author worship" moment, but, whew. This one deserved it.

Howdy,
Thanks for reading, and thanks for the kind comments.
You are right - I do get attached to the characters I have created, and it was difficult to put Habibi in that position. In fact, it got increasingly difficult to draw the pages as the scene went on.
But to know that the scene had an emotional impact on you as well makes the sometimes difficult storywriting process worth it. That, to me, is the ultimate goal of Pander: to be able create a story that "sticks" with the reader; to create characters that mean something to the reader. To that end, I spend more time polishing the story and the dialog than I do worrying about the art.
Hopefully Pander will continue to hold your interest as the story moves along. I will doing my best to insure that it does.
Best,
Dave
------------------

You're most certainly welcome. I've been reading since pretty much the beginning. I've been engrossed in the story ever since I read the first strip. I'm very impressed with your story-based approach. It's very engrossing and interesting.
On the personal level, I know ladies who have come close to Habibi's position, so this serves as an excellent example of what could happen to a girl who doesn't keep her head about her in that line of business.
I'm not sure if you ever considered this possibility, but maybe you've changed the lives of some girls who have seen your strip. Keep it up. You've got my support, certainly.

Yeesh, depressing story so far. Beautifully drawn and nicely told, but depressing.

No, really. I probably have given way too much thought to subjects such as "Burt as meta-boogieman".
Best,
Dave
