I'm just curious what everyone's favorite Makeshift Miracle page is. Ideally, I'd also love to know why you picked that page as the best...
Thanks everyone, I appreciate the input.

All time favorite page so far is the very first one. It's got some very good detail without having too much thrown into it. The coloring matches it perfectly. All time 2nd fav so far is number 7. The layout on it is wicked. Very nice the way it draws your eye down to the bottom right hand corner. Again the colouring for that one matches the mood and images perfectly!

My fave pages so far are 1 - 7, although I like 8, 9 and 10 I feel that the same attention to clean lines and the 'little' details were not taken.
This is not to say that the pages are not fantastic, it is merely an observation based on the previous pages.
Keep up the good work!
Fish-thwip!

Actually, I'm a little annoyed myself with the way that Page 10 got jpeg compressed. Believe it or not, the lines are much smoother on it in the original Photoshop file. I may try to recompress and replace it when Page 10 goes to the Archives.
Working ahead on pages, I've been looking back at some earlier ones and making changes when I get a chance to improve them.
The explosion (Page 8) actually got redrawn 3 times from 3 different angles and Colby had a completely different head on Page 6 until I looked back, hated it and redrew it. Luckily, all these changes got made before the pages got posted up on the site.
Although I'm currently working on Page 21 and 22, I'm agonizing over parts of Page 17 that I just don't like... that should keep me busy for some time.

Hi Jim:
I don't have a favorite page, I like them all. Just wanted to say from a non cartoonist point of view - I really like your comic. Enough each time to keep you interested and waiting to see what happens next. I was hooked from the first page - so maybe that means my favorite page was your first page!
My other favorite comic is Chopping Block so I think your comic is a good counter balance for my daily intake LOL
Keep up the great work!

Re: JPEG compression, try setting the level to 95%. I find that this preserves a great deal of quality while still cutting the file size down considerably from what it would be if you selected 99% or 100%.
The art is fantastic. My favorite strip is the first one. It's like you have walked into my office for an interview with finely-coiffed hair, a Giorgio Armani suit, a firm handshake, and a resume that doesn't raise the BS flag in my head. The first strip tells me of your talent. The 3D aspect of the building, the detail of the cement pillars, the reflections in the windows, the vague shapes on the other side of the glass facade, the leaves, the railing, the steps... Everything is exactly right.
You also avoided the Big Mistake: starting a comic strip before the plot is there. Granted, there are plenty of webcomics out there that started out with passable art and zero plot that are now quite popular... and there's more than a few of these that I read regularly... but really, the awkward flailing around many artists publish at first is not so great to read. (Non-sequiteur comics such as "?" are another story.)
My second favorite strip is from 10/3/01. The facial expressions are classic!
------------------

It conveyed a lot of what I wanted to say about the quality of the series.
Chapter One of the story finishes with Page 24 (coming out tomorrow). When Chapter 2 starts, I've got another image that I hope gives that kind of feel again. I want to have a nice full page image to start off each chapter.
------------------

Ah, Zubby. What a tease you are. Like we want to wait 'till Friday to see the aforementioned page. Wednesday's page will pale in comparison, I'm sure...
As for my favourite page thus far... I'd have to say that I'm a big fan of #34. I like the whole distortion aspect of it; the way the ceiling and the wall bend into each other and draw out Colby, and the upside-down dream imagery on the left. It's all so trippy... I dig it, man.
------------------

Howdy,
Hands down my favorite page is #34, when Colby finds the phone receiver on his desk. I think this is a pivotal frame for a number of reasons:
1) This page kickstarts the story again into high weirdness and unpredictability. The last panel when he reaches for the phone has a great sense of anticipation for the readers. It also suggests that a lot of this is in Colby's head, as in that he is being dragged into a different world that others can't see.
2) The panel layout is great. The broken, downward drifting panels lead right into the last panel. The panel contents make for a nice recap of the story too.
3) The angle and fisheye distortion in the last panel highten Cobly's sense of unease and put the focus on the receiver.
I'm Glad this topic came up, because I wanted to comment on this panel since I saw it.
By the by, it is this one:
http://miracle.keenspace.com/d/20011128.html
Best,
Dave
------------------

Thanks Dave,
I was pretty happy with how that page turned out too. It's neat seeing how much more I can do with Photoshop. Even just looking at the first few pages and the current ones, my Photoshop's progressed decently.

quote:
Originally posted by dDave:

Best thing about the tree panel?
No narration or dialog! Thanks for easing back on the redundant words and trusting your ability to tell this story visually.

------------------
