The Return of Faceless "Maxion"?

Post by ZOMBIE USER 6611 »

(Sorry) If it is He Who Has No Face, then he's a boss and so clearly cannot be a "minion". So, what's the opposite of a faceless minion? A faceless maxion, or so it seemed to me. ;)

I guess this is obvious to everyone else, but it took me a while to recognize that the couple that Tristan photographed were known to us.

Today (Friday, 9/20) confirms it, I think. Not only is The Faceless One shown (at some distance), but the lady is Miss Heywood from this strip:
http://toothandclaw.keenspace.com/d/20011025.html

She is in both strips feline, wearing glasses, hear in medium color unparted style, and with a penchant for dark sweaters and a collar style common to both encounters. The ear shape seems to be the same, as is the shorter muzzle and small, trianguar nose.

Miss Heywood is relatively tall, as is Hrosvitha. Elsewhere, we've seen that Sybil is comparable to Tristan in height. In the strip above, we also see that Miss Heywood and "Sybil" are also about the same height, perhaps with Miss Heywood having a slight edge. And, we see that Tristan's accoster is slighter taller than he, which makes sense.

So, in the previous seen Miss Heywood is urging Mr. Scarey-Glasses-Bloke along; one wonders what THAT is about. It is not unreasonable that she would know where Tristan lived; their "organization" has no doubt gathered much info on "Sybil" and her friends.

Interesting.

Spot on. Except that she only appears slightly taller than Tris because he's reeling backwards slightly. (It's one of the rare occasions I've thought about this. I'm not good with relative heights - I frequently end up using a ruler - so I draw everyone with roughly the same stature. Variations, especially early in the archives, are more likely to be accidental than deliberate. :))

All well and good, but what's with the Willysful of merrymakers?

I'll fully admit to being both deeply perplexed and highly intrigued by this storyline so far.

Wow, I never would've thought to look that in depth. Here's to brining back obscure characters!

Relative height can be a tricky thing. It's only recently that I've finally worked how tall all MY characters should be... and there's still some ambiguity there, because... well, Erin, for instance walks on her toes, Xe and Keer seem to have a tendency to slouch, Snitter, Fiar, and Apollo have large ears, etc., etc.

Anywho... enough about me. I must say, it's going to be rough having only one strip a week... I need my AF fix!!!! Maybe I'll re-read the archives... hoo.

Most likely a segue to connect Alex and Sybil's antics with Tristan's.

Except for his non-canonical moment of merriment on "casual day"... (and I see who it was that illustrated this "narrow but intense" bit of exuberance). ;)

...The Faceless One does prefer to be inconspicuous.

Miss Heywood looked quite different in her print top and flower-bedecked hat. These and other indications suggest that the pair had just come from the office. Perhaps on a lunch break?

(I'm amused at the notion of a non-canonical portrayal of an officially faceless person in a non-existent government bureau. This almost makes the guest strip "canon" by canceling out the negatives...)

Curiously, he is so inconspicuous that he stands out, in a way. I was able to spot him at a considerable distance.

I imagine that his normal office haunt, "Room 101", has been discussed at length here, including its tribute to the fictional origin. And I missed it. Rats. ;)

Great detective work there LH :)

Indeed, save how did she get into the flat before he did? 'tis a puzzlement....
More will be revealed in due course ...

Well, did you see that hot Corvette she was driving? That would certainly allow her to ... wait a minute. Oh, that was <i>you</i>. Never mind. ;)

What's been happening

As to the willys full of clowns and other oddities for the last two weeks, I assumed they were intended to show that Tristan doesn't react much to anything. Except that object in the antiques store.
I'm sure all will be revealed soon. Have faith.

A wrong handed drive Corvette would be an entertaining sight :) This pastiche of disjointed Serlingesque imagery makes me wonder if someone slipped a little electricity into the punchbowl ;-)

The 10/11 strip is an interesting teaser. Sybil refers to a "nasty bit of work", and is still looking backward a bit. I wonder what that bit of work was. From Alex's comment, she has been gone long enough to have accomplished ... something.

The Author is not likely to include scenes that don't move the story forward, although it can seem obscure at the time.

It certainly appears that James Roberts is weaving this tapestry from many disparate threads.

All of these threads will come together in a recognizable design soon, no doubt. The ultimate result is ... looming. ;)
