Intro/preview/commercial for a skatevideo I'm working on

Post by W.M.Y.L.G. Joe »

This was just a quick thing I whipped up from two days of shooting at the local park. That's why all the footage in the same place. I've started filming at other spots, so there will be some variety in the final product.

WARNING: This is a big file (a little under 17 megs) so it's preferable that you either have a lot of time to download, or a fast connection. This was as small as I could get the file.

MmmmMMmmm, pretty durn groovey if I say so myself, fine sir. Great little video that's for sure, not too mad about the font, but hey, it's your vid! Some nice skaters too, no super dandy amazing tricks wich is a shame but I'm sure I'm not the only one that tires of all the proffesionals. I wanna' see beginers like myself dagnabit!

Now just add some swear words, booze and more intense editing then bo ya! Bob's ya uncle mon! Ya' wickin' wid me? Yaaaa slieck!

*ahem* Sorry, just the whole tirty years of independence thing in Jamaica, rubs off on you mon ^.^

Oh, and I realise trying to put intense editing into a shot with only one camera is practically impossible, but hey! It's worth a shot!

I actually kinda liked the font. But yeah, it's hard to find some professional level guys around here. They're there, but hard to come by. The final version will hopefully have a local ripper named Mark McClure who useta be sponsored. I skate with him every now and then and he wants to work with me in the video.
But anyways, I actually avoid the (profuse use of) swearing and booze and whatnot. I believe in giving a more artistic view of skating (although I want it to be raw, and true to reality, I hate stuff that's very set up and superficial feeling). Glad ya liked it!

I've just had a look, and I can say for certain that you are all better than the people I see around my hometown trying to spin their boards through 360 degrees in the middle of the pavement. Pretty cool all round, in fact.

What did you use to edit and format (as an mpg, I mean) the video?

Thanx again. The program I use is called Ulead Video Studios 4.0. I'm getting anxious to start editing all the footage I've captured over the past weeks. Especially some of the shots I set up and took of myself last night. Usually it's because I find plenty of things I don't like about my past videos and I wanna give it another go. Hehe. One of the few things I'm a perfectionist about...

And...ummm....how many hours of video do you tend to shoot for 2 1/2 minutes of finished product? The last video project I was involved with (a spoof rap video) took about 9 1/2 hours for 2 1/2 minutes of video, and I felt we were still 20 seconds short. The first five hours of source material wound up being worth 5 seconds of finished product.

I trust you don't have the same efficiency problems we did?

Actually, with stuff of this nature (skatevideos are pretty similar to the music videos of today, ie: quick, often changing shots) it usually takes quite a bit of filming for only a short final product. On my last full skatevideo, For Joy, we filmed from early February 'till mid-May. I had about 3 1/2 hours of footage (actually a bit more than that, one of the tapes messed up and it was bunch of GOOD footage, too! I was rather pissed) and the final video is about 15 minutes long. So with those kinds of projects expect to do A LOT of filming just for a seemingly miniscule final product. I've found that even though it takes a lot of time and effort, it's usally worth it in the end.
It's certainly helped that I haven't limited myself to certain skaters with this video (normally one skater has a "part" that is strictly shots of him and any other guest skaters he wants to be in his "part"). This project, as I've said, is more or less for my own fun and enjoyment.
