In the latest move in my grand plot to steal all of David Simpson's ideas, on Monday I'm switching from graphic pen to brush for the comic's inking. I'd just like to hear what you think of the new style (which is not really that different, but what the hey). Too thick? Too inconsistent? Too messy? Terrible?
Also note that the slightly narrower size isn't a permanent change; I just didn't need the full width. (Ah, the joys of not being syndicated.)
------------------

It looks fine. To be honest, I can't see much difference. Some lines look very slightly thicker, and the tips of Sybil's ears look a bit less sharply-defined, but that's about all. I probably wouldn't have noticed anything if you'd kept quiet.

Update: Sybil's ears look fine to me now. I think your style's excellent, whatever you're doing it with.

Yep. The change in the ears was accidental. Thanks for pointing it out; I'd have missed it otherwise.
------------------

Thanks.
Personally, I'd just been bothered by the fact I was imitating the brush effect with pens, when I could just be going straight to the source. And I think it looks better in the end. (Although chances are I'll look back on my early attempts with embarrassment later. I always do.)
And Thomas K. Dye doesn't use brushes? That's a real surprise to me; his lines are always very expressive.
------------------

I went from pens to ink back in May and I really like it. Although these days I've been poor and I can't afford any nice brushes so I think my ink strokes have been looking like shit. Just keep in mind that you can be a pro and not use a ink and brush. Many artists never use them. Thomas Dye from Newshounds doesn't and I don't think Albert Temple does either. It's all about what works for you and what you're most comfortable with. But I like your ink work. It's looking great!
