I love that!!! I looked at today's comic and just laughed!!! So how does someone create a public persona as irritating as that? What does he do, take pills before every broadcast? The very idea that Bob is a nutjob on the air and a hard and shrewd businessbird off the air is very incisive... and a little scary as well.

I'm wondering that myself. I did a double take on the last few panels today...very eerie. Last person I'd expect to be making business/financial decisions!

One word: Ugh!

Here I thought (as Gene probably inteneded) that Bob was just an off-his-nut type DJ, but that he still had a heart somewhere. Well, today we found out that heart is pure stone. When things go down, I hope Bob finds himself right there under it. Hopefully Cotton doesn't get hit too hard by the fall-out.

>sigh< Seems like everytime something fun might be happening, things seem to turn dark. I could use a few more happy endings...

I suppose that crazy act had to be a put-on. If Bob was like that on and off the air, all day every day, he'd spontaneously combust or get strangled by his colleagues.

I wonder if that suave, cool business-bird thing is just another act? Maybe in private he munches valium.

Gene...um...How best to say this...

Ow. Ow. Kooky, oddball, 'bird-brained' (sorry Bill) I could handle. Being fed lines by some political party, business, or some anti-human organization would be expected. But this...this...

He's...too smart. Too shrewd. Too.....human.

D*mnit...Stupidity could maybe be fixed...Being some party's patsy could be changed...But this...

He's not doing this for his beliefs. He's not doing this to improve life. He's doing it for one thing, pure and simple: money. Pure, unadulterated greed...And people and furs are almost guaranteed to die for it. -_-

How....human.

I was expecting someone paranoid, or defensive-hostile, or plain depressive, but not that! Image

How he does it? *chuckle* I only wish I could
give you a little bit of the (admittedly small)
"backstage experience" I've had with people
who are in charge of public relations for
different companies, and have to put on a
"face" for the public that has nothing to do
with who they really are. Once you actually
could see the Jekyll/Hyde transformation
applied in real life, you'd see where I got
the inspiration for Bob O'Link!

There are such beings. Their talent is
natural.

Well, consider... is it really feasible for
an affiliate of a major media network to allow
a genuine nutcase in front of a microphone?
There are certain types of show-people that
are very adept at turning a natural talent
like Bob's into a career. (One need only look
at the personalities of a few members of the
world of professional wrestling to see a number
of good examples!) Bob has honed his act to
perfection, and has made it pay off. He knows
full well he isn't the charismatic type - he
is already known for the type of over-the-top
brashness that he displayed at the Festival.
His listners *expect* him to get on his guest's
nerves, and they enjoy seeing him get put in
his place. In real life they'd get tired of
such behaviour, but when one can tune it in,
listen to it, then turn it off, it becomes
entertaining. Is it *that* surprising?

The Bob O'Link you saw in the office was the
real avian. The only drugs he's into are
caffiene and nicotine.

The ultimate ending will be a positive one.
But a story that's happy all the way through
doesn't really have a happy ending, it just
ends. There is a point to it all, and there's
no way to get there but the hard way.

Which begs the question...
What is humanity?

What is a cross? It can be just some stupid meaningless piece of wood... Or it can be Jesus and everything that comes from Him. It can also mean punishment (most commonly unfair punishment). It can mean stuff related to medicine. It can mean Racism (the suastic cross).

One can never depend only on primary definitions.

Actually, I think he's got a heart of gold.

Yellow, hard, and cold.

It hasn't ended yet, thank the Matrix.

What is humanity?
That depends...

What are we famous/notorious for?
"Do Impure thoughts count?" "No, only acts of will."
"What about acts of ineptitude?" "A grey area, and don't tell me you haven't lived in that twilight before."
"Most of my life... Not that I haven't leaped up into the blinding light of competence now and then. It's sustaining the altitude that defeats me."

Hey, Gene, I wouldn't want to be negative to the double-countenanced DJ, and the bigoted bear. If Tavitiana manages to make Cotton see the underhanded pervasiveness of the media and the splinter hate groups that feed off the lies, the bear and the bird will have their butts in the wringer!!!

BTW, Gene, is Bob O'Link trying to be like Wolfman JAck on the air, and Edward R. Murrow when the mike is off?

Hey, now wait a minute! Admittedly it's been a while, but Wolfman Jack at least had class -- quite a bit of class, in fact. Bob O'Link strikes me as more of a modern-bred "shock jock" reactionary ala Mancow Muller (without the bodily function jokes).

Well, he's not a nice bird, true. But my
story is all about every type of being, good
'n bad, furry and human. Bob is indeed a
false sort. presenting one face to the public
and keeping his real goals to himself. But
when it hits the fan, what will he do then?

Oh, there'll be behinds aplenty feeling the
fires of Fate! But in order for Cotton to
learn the real lesson, Tavie can only *help*
him...

No, at least the Wolfman had a heck of a lot
more class than that! Bob is more or less a
'crafty clown'... someone who discovered that
they had a natural talent for throwing folks
off with his 'wacky' side and has turned it
into a lucrative career. The closest their
world has to an Edward R. Murrow is Hugh N.
Creigh.

Well, really he's more the intentional-victim
type, the kind who does nutty things to get
his guests irritated at him enough to spaz and
then recoil as they retaliate. (To his
audience's delight.)
