You know, if this comic strip is named after Gene, then why is it all of a sudden focusing on Cotton? BTW, this is one of the best comic strips I've ever read. There are definitely moments from the heart. I like that.
------------------

Hmmmm, some are starting to be peeved with the way Cotton is stealing the show, no matter how significant it'll turn out.
I even guess at this rate there may be no Christmas goodie (for RL reasons too). As if Cotton is better off as an...Easter Bunny! Just kidding.
I have to also admit, in spite of the holiday-season being and causing a blatant monkey on one's back, it's just another one of these lengthy stories (hopefully not as stupid as The Fugitive series on television). I must further admit that, locally on an animation TV station, I'm a little cheezed off that this series, Mattimeo: A Tale Of Redwall, may not be concluded until perhaps the Super Bowl. I was informed that it was overdue by two months when it could've premiered in September. It would've just been nice if it was done in time for the Christmas holidays. What's the use when there's not much I can do.
As I really hold nothing against the great Mr. Jacques (it's the local station that I hold responsible), we may as well not hold anything against Gene should the story behind the comic seem awkward.

moment, there are a lot of reasons why I'm
doing it that way, most of them will be
revealed at the end of this story arc. There
are a lot of things I want to do with this
comic, and I have to lay the foundation for
what this particular world is like, first.
The best way to do that in this case is for
the reader to see Furriston through the eyes
of someone other than Gene. Gene's already had
lots and lots of notoriety before this comic
began, and he can afford to give the spotlight
to Cotton for right now.

I'm not saying the comic is ruined with Cotton as the current focus. I happen to like rabbits (I played the March Hare in the RSS Drama Club's version of Alice In Wonderland last year, and one of the characters I role play is a European Hare named Reese Dragonclaw). It was just something I'd noticed. Nothing more. No worries?
------------------

One advantage to coming back to Gene's POV...that means, most likely, more CatsWhisker as well, and you can never have too many cute lady felines.
(Granted, Tavatiana isn't exactly hard on the eyes, either... )
Seriously, the Gene/CW exchanges in the past have made for some interesting reading, here and elsewhere. (BTW, how much of "elsewhere" affects "here"? For example, do your "Bits & Pieces" strips occur in the same continuity?)
KFM!

Actually, I'm still sort of debating that.
It would be rather nice to have the Raccoon
Family in Furriston, but it would make the
story about their origin more difficult to
write.

Oh, I don't mind your asking, by any means-
but answering could take a long time! "Pogo"
isn't a subject that can be encapsulated
easily into any single paragraph, or even a
lot of them.. or at all, in a way. Because it
was both a product of the times and a mirror
of those times, held right up to its face so
it could see how ridiculous and benign and
stupid and wrong it could be at times. But, in
brief, Pogo was a comic strip created by an
unbelievably talented and prolific cartoonist
named Walt Kelly. It ran in newspapers
throughout this country during the period of
the greatest social and political change it's
ever had, and it did something that is nowadays
taken for granted, but for it's time was all
but unheard-of: it addressed those social and
political changes within the context of the
characters in the strip. It can be hard to
think of such a thing as radical, or even
unusual, but at the time Kelly did it, it was,
for what was supposed to be a daily humor
comic about "funny animals" anyway. Political
cartoonists have always been around, of course,
but they had been generally limited to the
quick-jab single panel commentary. Kelly did
whole *stories*... and he did them so well
that whether one agreed or not (and the man
had some BIG enemies) the skill was beyond
question. Pogo (the central character) himself
was a possum, and there were more supporting
characters than I could begin to tell you
about - you really need to read some of the
collected comic volumes to get a feel for the
true scope of Kelly's genius. And this is my
attempt to be *brief* on the subject...

I'd like to see the Raccoon Kids show up in the strip sometime.
I'm sure they're around Furriston somewhere.
course, Observant has to keep low, and Active has to keep it in low gear
