Smooth, yes. Comes from lots of practise, plus a five-to-seven-second delay, for the sake of off-color language. I'll bet nobody noticed a thing. On 2002-03-15 14:09, genecatlow wrote:Seriously, when Cotton finds out that his comments were blocked by that ad (which I'm sure one of his friends like Gene will tell him about), Bob's going to have some 'splaining to do.
Let's hope they managed to pick up on it.
Bob might've had the commercial segue in so
smooth that the listners might not have
suspected anything was wrong.
Meanwhile, I've just noticed something: there isn't a single can of whup-#$$ to be found anywhere in Furriston, regular size or "jumbo". Somebody seems to have bought them all!

You know, all this talk about hammering and/or eating Snakebird Bob, it's cathartic, but these controversial radio personalities thrive on that sort of thing. As Gene has said, Bob practically makes a career out of being a "victim" on the air.
I do believe a much better and much more lasting thing would be to arrange for Bob to to be hoisted by his own petard...or better yet, to hang himself. I suspect that is what will happen eventually.
Cotton strikes me as a very intelligent type. If he figures out what is going on, and sooner or later, he WILL, I bet he'll think of a way to hang Snakebird Bob in his own trap.

The only thing to do then is hit him where it hurts the most.Quoth the ArchTeryx:

Precisely. But to do that, victimizing Bob isn't an answer, since it's exactly what he thrives on. He has to be caught in the act, or at least caught in a scandal that turns the public off to him. The public, as the old saw goes, aren't mushrooms; you can't shovel manure on them forever and expect them to stay buried. On 2002-03-16 16:18, CyberCorn Entropic wrote:

of manure to the readers. Feeding the
emotions of his listeners and riding -and in
so doing, fueling- the crest of a certain
percentage of public opinion is what types
like Bob have made a career out of. Without
giving the story away, what's going to happen
is not only going to be something that Bob
wasn't expecting, but what Cotton, as clear
as his actions would be to the readers, won't
expect either.

Hey, I've got an idea, let's make a pool!
I'm not kidding nor making fun, I mean it. Let's join a bunch of theories than choose our best bets!
It'll certainly be fun... or interesting at least!

I know exactly what you are talking about, Gene. I won't name names, but I've heard more then a few reactionary talk radio hosts, and think Snakebird Bob matches up all too well with them.On 2002-03-17 18:13, genecatlow wrote:

I'm very interested in seeing where the story goes, however.

I would liken our feculant fowl, not to the few politically incorrect radio talk shows currently out there in the real world, but rather to the entire mass media.
From whence cometh my opinion?
I work for an ABC affiliate television broadcasting station. I've been there about 20 years.
The news you read, see, and hear?
It's pretty much ALL Bob O'Link.
You are told what a newsroom editor you never see wants you to be told, and what he wants is ratings.

indeed motivated by the same exact thoughts
that Bob O'Link has, yes. I did not actually
work at any such media station, but I did
provide service at one time to some of the
equipment at one, and the behind-the-scenes
control that you saw at FURadio is not that
far removed from what actually happens, far
more often than it should, in real life.

to be all in fun, I'd be all for it. The only
thing is, they very often aren't. Those who
win such polls can sometimes lord it over the
losers, and the losers can (perhaps with some
justification) complain that they were
cheated out of their 'victory' for any number
of reasons. I have no problem with readers
venturing their guesses here on the forum,
but I rather think a poll would be pushing
the business of guessing into unwarranted
(and perhaps unhappy) territory. Lots of my
forum readers seem to like the cooperative
and friendly feeling I work to maintain on
the forum, and I would be really happy if we
could keep it that way.
