...is about as close to "breaking the fourth wall" as I'll ever get in Coolville.
I used to do it all the time years ago in the comic's earliest incarnation (ie: characters talk to cartoonist and complain about the stuff they have to do, philosophize about how they cease to exist when someone turns the page, and later, to a lesser extent, make comments like "This is like something out of a comic book!")
I found it got real old real fast.
So today's is kind of the exception to the rule regarding how their universe works.

"All the world's a stage..."
"We are such stuff as dreams are made of..."
"...a poor player that struts and frets upon the stage and then is heard no more..."<P>Stepping back through the fourth wall should indeed be done with moderation if you are to maintain the reader's suspension of disbelief, but it is sometimes done by the best. My apologies to Bill Shakespeare if I haven't quoted him exactly.<P>Is anybody old enough to remember the episode of "Davy and Goliath" where Davy's dad, apparently unaware of the irony, says,"You're not a puppet on a string?"
