Dropping by the ole' E-neighborhood. What's up? :D
Sup y'all! Remember me? MAYBE.
Something on the twitters (yeah I'm on twitters) made me think of the days when ComicGenesis was home on the internet (what, like, back in 2004-2007 or so right?) and I started feeling nostalgic, so I figured I'd drop by for a bit!
Here's what I've been up to, for anyone who cares: I got a masters degree and nearly had a nervous breakdown because of it (my thesis will find its way online probably sometime this week). I had a girlfriend and two years later broke up (thank God). I also learned me some python and javascript and as a result I'm going to be moving to The Bay to work with a startup in the next month (pretty jazzed about that). I have a pet parakeet now. I draw less than I used to, but now I know how to use Inkscape so I can whip up a pretty mean schematic. I might even post a few of them here, if I can get them online. Most of my comics are crummy ragecomics on reddit these days, unfortunately. (Speaking of: How does f7u12 make you feel? Art or unskilled hackery? Or both? WEIGH IN EXPERTS)
I read through the last few pages of some of the more popular threads, and while it looks like CG isn't as busy as it used to be (Is the golden age of webcomics over?), it looks like a few familiar faces are still around. Did the Kolters have another baby?? If so, congrats! What's everyone else been up to?
(While I'm thinking about it: Does phpbb have a markdown extension? Because that would rock.)

You been gone a long time old man. We don't take kindly to your kind no more here in theseyeer parts.
But uh... glad that you are doing well
Well, I adore me a good rage comic- I think like most of the collective social networking comic memes they are simpler to make in that there is less complexity in the process of production, but that doesn't mean all of them are good. To some I just say meh, while to others I am most tickled. Pretty much the same way I feel about captchart.
I'm not sure if I'm what you'd consider a familiar face, but there have been a lot of oldbies popping back in LOL I TYPED POOPING AT FIRST HAHAHAA POOPING OLDBIES SO OLD YOU CAN'T HOLD YOUR POOP IN LOLOLOL and saying hello, and hopefully sticking around. It's considerably slower than when I first got here but I don't mind it, I've been to some forums where you can hardly type a response because by the time you've typed up something thoughtful it's obsolete because the conversation has already gone miles away, or where the OP starts a thread and everyone responds... to the OP... and nobody reads each other's responses. As much as I get bummed if I see a day goes by where there's little or no posts here, I'd rather it be that than a rampant stampede of opinions trampling over itself.

Jesus! I remember you. Its sad that I remember people and never really notice theyre gone until they pop back in saying "hey! What have I missed?" Which is what happens to most people.
2007, eh? Heres what's happened since then. I went to Iraq, I came back from Iraq, I went to Bulgaria and Romania, then I came back from Bulgaria and Romania, I traveled Europe, I got a new boss and a new position in my unit, I worked really hard for 10 months, and now I'm in a staff job and life is cozy. Also I went to the Penny Arcade child's play charity dinner with BEC and won the bidding for appearance in a comic.
Sprinkle with D&D, many nights of drinking with friends, and adventures in putting together an apartment in Germany and you'll have my life.

Yeah, I hear you with "sorta." I tried that once or twice, couldn't really keep it going when I wasn't really drawing like I was. Don't think I'll be back permanents, but I might set up a webcomic again when I have time. A not-serious, hardly-updates sort of affair, you understand.TheSuburbanLetdown wrote:I sorta vanished for a while, and then I came back. Sorta.
Yeah, I hear you. I actually find ragecomics more difficult, since I find it easier to draw than I do cutting, pasting, GIMP-ing, etc. But, they're fun. Of course, my problem is what it's always been: My jokes are all pretty insider/obscure. For example, here's one I made for a project of mine (unofficial updated lab manual for the class I just TA'd last semester):VeryCuddlyCornpone wrote:Well, I adore me a good rage comic- I think like most of the collective social networking comic memes they are simpler to make in that there is less complexity in the process of production, but that doesn't mean all of them are good. I suspect you kinda had to have had experience with the professor in order to get it. It doesn't help that I'm way out of practice in terms of writing comics. Funny how particular that skill is.
Looks pretty familiar to me! I think you came into things about 3-6 months before I started fading, but I remember thinking you were pretty rad.VeryCuddlyCornpone wrote:I'm not sure if I'm what you'd consider a familiar face
Yeah, I hear you. For me, it was always the doodles thread that kept me coming back. We used to have some pretty good conversation back in the day, when people weren't shredding each others work apart with critiques. :/ Things look pretty peaceful right now though!VeryCuddlyCornpone wrote:It's considerably slower than when I first got here but I don't mind it, I've been to some forums where you can hardly type a response because by the time you've typed up something thoughtful it's obsolete because the conversation has already gone miles away, or where the OP starts a thread and everyone responds... to the OP... and nobody reads each other's responses. Word. I always meant to play more D&D during my undergrad, but man finding a good DM is hard! I started this GURPS campaign thing like five years ago and I never really got anywhere with it. It's a shame, too, because it was gonna be, like, detectives on Mars and shit. You can't get much cooler than that! Anyways: My friends mostly just play MTG these days, with a dash of Settlers, Munchkin, and stuff like that. All that's okay, but I've always been a sucker for a good story. Especially sci-fi.Laemkral wrote:Sprinkle with D&D, many nights of drinking with friends, and adventures in putting together an apartment in Germany and you'll have my life.
Do you guys (Vort? Is he gone too?) still do online D&D and stuff? If so, I wouldn't mind hearing about upcoming adventures n' such.

Dunno what's been happening much lately. I only just popped by again about three days back.
Outside of CG, I've just been plodding along updating and stuff. Like most of us, hopefully.

I remeber you, tho vaguely, i must admit. You must have joined CG when i was already on my way to disappear (i've also gone and returned only recently).
Well... in the last 4 years...
I pretty much stopped flying (unless i'm a passenger on an airliner) and began working in a videogame company. Then i moved to an other videogame company and left Italy (for good, i think) to live in Madrid, Spain. Pretty much at that time, me and Amis quit our relationship, but we parted on good terms and we're still best friends.
Other than that life goes on as normal.

Hi, Jesus, what's up. Nothing much new over here. I'm working on finishing LWK and starting something new, but I've been lazy as heck. Forums are slow, but still worth checking out. Except on weekends. It's eerily empty on weekends.
Colters had another baby, but they don't visit here anymore. Beth pops in, like, once in five months.

I DM a D&D Eberron adventure using an online application called Fantasy Grounds, which is pretty cool and comfy (especially for the DM), but, unfortunately, it's not free. I'm also pretty active on Rondak's Portal, wich is a pretty nice site for play-by-post.Jesusabdullah wrote:Do you guys (Vort? Is he gone too?) still do online D&D and stuff? I wouldn't mind one of two new players. However, the players of my campaign do no belong to these forums, they're people i recruited in an MMO clan, then grew bored of the MMO, dropped off and decided to play good old die-rolling D&D.

Oh I missed the DnD stuff.
I think Vort still pops in occassionally, but he totally still hosts RP games, get over on chat where the cool kids are

Whaaat??! Well, I remember you. >:P It's all good though. We probably just didn't hang in the same threads.Jops wrote:I remeber you, tho vaguely, i must admit.
Sounds cool! Anything I'm likely to have heard of/played? Also, why did you move? Do you miss flying at all?Jops wrote:I pretty much stopped flying (unless i'm a passenger on an airliner) and began working in a videogame company. Good terms is always nice. Things ended pretty shitty with my ex, and, man, it's nuts. On the other hand, being able to say "what a bitch!" and mostly mean it does help the moving-on a bit.Jops wrote:Pretty much at that time, me and Amis quit our relationship, but we parted on good terms and we're still best friends.

That's great that you're still art-ing! I've always admired how you've been in the webcomic biz for such a long haul. Regarding laziness: Aren't we all? Yes. Yes we are.McDuffies wrote:Hi, Jesus, what's up. Nothing much new over here. I'm working on finishing LWK and starting something new, but I've been lazy as heck.
I suspect that children do that to a family. Just my parakeet is a frickin' handfull. He's like a teenager: He wants to hang out, but he's always talking back and not doing what I say. At least I don't have to cook for him.McDuffies wrote:Kolters had another baby, but they don't visit here anymore. Beth pops in, like, once in five months.

Sweet. Right now's not the best time for me to get involved---I'm in the process of moving after all---but I'll keep all this in mind! I'd love to get in on some o' dat once I get settled in.Killbert-Robby wrote:Oh I missed the DnD stuff.

Every now and then we still get on a pretty good roll. There hasn't been much hard critiquing going on for quite a while, and there hasn't been a whole lot of drama either. I'm very content with that. It's nice to have a place on this vast virtual frontier where I don't have to wear helmets to protect my forehead from me smacking it in disbelief and/or frustration.Jesusabdullah wrote: Yeah, I hear you. Don't worry Jesus, I don't think he's started a new campaign yet.
And shame on you guys for not recognizing Jesus, considering he was one of the regulars during "the peak".
People I've never heard of are "old guard" now and old regulars are unknown strangers
