So there's ever more and more animation on tv (and internet too) so we aren't forced to choose between Ninja turtles and Scooby Doo anymore. So what are your favourite weekly pieces of animated delight?

I haven't consistently watched cartoons in years. My favorites remain the same, with Home Movies, Futurama, and The Boondocks, topping the list of the older Adult Swim fare, but also includes Space Ghost: Coast to Coast, the Brak Show, Sealab 2021, and Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law. I think I mentioned before that now that I've got mostly all of the tv shows I love on dvd, I might start moving to procure my favorite cartoons. On that list are 90's classics from the WB, like Animaniacs, Pinky & the Brain, and the Batman and Superman stuff. I also want to have old action cartoons from my childhood, like GI Joe and Voltron, and cool "cute" cartoons, like Muppet Babies, Gummi Bears, Smurfs, and especially DuckTales. Older Cartoon Network stuff, like Dexter's Lab and Samurai Jack would fill out the list, as well. Also, Aaahh!!! Real Monsters and Angela Anaconda are a couple of miscellaneous old favorites.

As far as new stuff, which I assume is really the point of this thread, I really like some of the new Cartoon Network stuff. Adventure Time is awesome. Flapjack was fun, too, and Chowder had its moments. I even still like Spongebob Squarepants, although the stuff that came before the movie was better than what has come after.

Cartoons were such an integral part of my childhood, and I haven't considered until now how little I watch them anymore. Anything new, anyway.

I still partake in reruns of Spongebob and various 90's classics when they come on, but I currently find little that entertains me. Adventure Time with Finn and Jake has not let me down though, although I have only seen a handful of episodes, it's still pretty good quality in my opinion. It has that wacky sense of humor that kids (and grownups, too) enjoy, without getting to the point that I just roll my eyes at it.

Buster, don't feel bashful about oversharing, I've many a time stuck my foot in my mouth poo-pooing the merits of post-Movie Spongebob in comparison with the earlier seasons Among other things, the animation lacks the character it once had, and I find them almost to be two separate versions of the same show, with the only connecting threads being the characters (in name, not necessarily personality) and the settings.

I watch very little television these days though and rarely invest in internet shows. I'm certain I'm missing a show but I just can't think of it at the moment.

I do hope that Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network, which in my opinion were always the two cartoon-churning factions, will someday return to producing quality animated television instead of this increasing reliance on live-action shows. I realize live-action shows are much cheaper to produce, but it seems that these days the only thing i ever catch on Nickelodeon that is animated is Spongebob or maybe Fairly Oddparents (and actuallly I can't recall having seen the latter in some time, has it been axed?) which saddens me.

Also, just putting it out there, as much as I love Spongebob Squarepants (at least the older episodes, with a few of the newer ones being acceptable), I think it is time for the show to retire. It's been on the air going on twelve years now and I think it's time to let new shows take that timeblock. It'll never happen, I know, because it's too much of a cash cow, but a girl can dream.

I enjoy all of the DC animated shows, from the first Batman to the latest Young Justice, the animation quality is good as is the writing. Also toping the list would be Archer of the FX network, also their Frisky Dingo. Also in there would be the Venture Bros, Adventure Time. American Dad has its moments, well more than the Cleveland Show. Sym-Bionic Titan, I'm a sucker for that old anime-like style.

The Spectacular Spider-Man, I liked only the art style. That seems to be common with alot of the recent shows. The designs are impressive but thats pretty much it.

I agree, yet I also believe that's it about getting teen viewers as much as the cost. Animation and teens have never gone well in the same sentence, in pitches they are probably fatal. The truely sad one is the Disney channel, leaders in animation well once, I keep clicking back in hopes of seeing something amazing instead they just seemed to stopped caring about quality, animated or live action.

As for ending shows that's tricky as more than likely the network heads would use the empty slot to do another live action show since that's the trend. Rather let the animated shows keep the medium dragging along.

My absolute favorites of all time are a tie between Animaniacs and the 1990s Batman cartoon. They're both just so marvelous. These days...? Well, Avatar: The Last Airbender was really friggin' good. The cartoon, not the movie. Um...otherwise, I've mostly been sticking with anime. I keep meaning to check out Adventure Time, as I loved the pilot that came out a few years ago.

Oh, and cheesy as it is I still have a soft spot for She Ra.

Their newer cartoons usually aren't too hot either. With stuff like "My gym partner is a monkey" or "Squirel boy" it's like they're trying to kill the animation.

Eh you americans. Have you ever canceled a show that's been running for more than two seasons, without previously stomping it into the ground, pulling it's intestines out and using them as a lasso.

Well naturally, Phineas and Ferb is pretty awesome but the rest of their animation is bad.

I grew up on the likes of Robotech, Voltron, Ulysses 31, Star Blazers, Mysterious Cities of Gold, Twins of Destiny as well as pretty much any superhero show (especially the DC stuff) and thanks to DVDs that's pretty much the same cartoons I watch now

The early 90s Nickelodeon stuff was pretty cool too.

I could go on forever about all the old cartoons I like. So I won't. For now. Of the newer stuff, I like . . .

Scooby-Doo: Mystery Incorporated, though it seems that they have been put on indefinite hiatus until they get their stupid red tape crap sorted out. Which absolutely sucks because it is hands-down the best version of Scooby-Doo that has ever been produced. Not that that's really saying much considering the competition, but still. It's ridiculous amounts of enjoyable. And there was an episode with Harlan Ellison. You can't beat that.

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Yup. Of course, I'm just waiting for them to cancel it too, or put it on hold, or completely change it. I don't trust you anymore, cartoon companies! Every time I hand you my heart, you stomp on it! WELL NOT THIS TIME, YOU HEAR ME?! MLP:FiM WILL LAST FOREVER! OR ELSE!

I hear the new My Little Pony cartoon is bizarrely addictive.

It is! It helps that it is also absolutely brilliant. It's got all your standard blah-de-blah lessons that little kids should learn, of course, but it manages to present the whole thing in such a wonderful, funny, and yes, quite bizarre way.

My favourites are The Simpsons, Futurama, Animaniacs, Pinky and the Brain, Looney Toons, X-Men: The Animated Series, and Heathcliff and the Catillac Cats. And of course, Undergrads.


If you also want to talk about CGI, I really loved Reboot and Beast Wars.

I miss the old 80s & 90s stuff. Thundercats, GI Joe, Animanics, Pinky & the Brain...

Now I'm stuck with Micky Mouse Clubhouse, Handy Manny, Jake and the Neverland Pirates, Imangination Movers (I like them actually). Yeah for Disney Junior (minus the damn reruns)

I think that Phineas and Ferb is still being made, so that's my favourite "alive" show. I also watch Archer, It's good though Frisky Dingo was much better imo. Venture Brothers is ok too. Of course Futurama, though I think they're inevitably weaker than in original run, but there'll still be a great episode here and there. I watch new Scooby-Doo too, if there was ever show that profits from long history of being bad, it's that - though I think it was done more subtle in What's new Scooby-Doo, but you still had to sit through "mysteries".
I keep hearing good things about Adventure Time so I should check it, but with recent CN shows, they all use more or less the same voice talents, same animators and directors, so no matter how much they change concepts or tweak the designs, they still feel awfully the same to me. The last thing I really liked by them was Foster's home for imaginary friends.
Home Movies was one of my favourite cartoons in last ten years or so. O'Grady was pretty cool too. I liked Dr.Katz, but Ben was an awfully annoying character, and he hogged like two thirds of the screen time. Gotta say I also thoroughly enjoyed 6teen.
Of course there are classics, most of Cartoon Network's top cartoons from late 90'ies, specially Dexter and Powerpuff Girls, and also Daria, since I belong to Grunge generation.
It'll be funny to see cable channels getting into animation. I certainly won't wait for Fox to make another cartoon unrelated to Family Guy and actually stick with it.

I think now a days I like drawing the characters more than watching the cartoons.

Dragon Ball Z kai is the only one I currently watch on tv. I really liked TDI but the sequels have turned me off.

I think the Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy is one of the all time best, certainly one of cartoon networks best. The keeper of the reaper episode was great. Fred Fredburger was pure gold, but when they tried to bring him back it wasn't as funny.

Way too many favorite shows that are no longer on the air to list them all, but favorite current shows would have to be Archer and Venture Brothers.

EDIT: We would also like to mention our nerd rage on the topic of Cartoon Network playing ANYTHING that's live-action.

Yes!! I realize that network drift happens and all, what with History Channel airing programs that are history only in that they happened a few months ago before a camera, and The Learning Channel only tenuously attempting to provide us with education, but live action shows on Cartoon Network would be like if Comedy Central suddenly started airing National Geographic documentaries, or if E Network decided to show golf tournaments. It just ain't right!
