Have you ever had any money stolen from you?
It’s normal to feel frustrated, angry or even foolish when you lose money in general or even on your investments. It is an entirely different story when you have money stolen from you, probably by bank fraud, credit card scams or even having 'raw' cash taken.
Have you ever had any money stolen from you?
If yes, how did you feel? What did you do?

I've only ever had money swindled from me on the street, not a big amount, anger from allowing myself to be tricked was much worse than any material loss.
Re: Have you ever had any money stolen from you?
Just once really.
I was mugged walking home one night. I must have been about 22 or 23 at the time, because I'd moved out of my parents' house and then back in at this point (had to leave work because of health problems and couldn't afford my own place on benefits alone). I was walking over the bridge near my house. I was just short of reaching the top of it, which is the point where our house came into view.
To be honest I don't think I even thought about the money side of it afterwards, just the fact that I'd been mugged and so close to my house. That bit got me for a while because it wasn't as if it was an area I could try and avoid at night. It was the street leading to my house.

I've had this happen a couple of times, for minor amounts, and had the same reaction.McDuffies wrote:I've only ever had money swindled from me on the street, not a big amount, anger from allowing myself to be tricked was much worse than any material loss.

Re: Have you ever had any money stolen from you?
I had my wallet stolen one night at a club and didn't even notice till Monday on my way to work and went for the pants i wore that night for it. Got my bank emptied. I would be lying if i said it didn't really affect me, cause i find myself now and then feeling for my wallet in a crowd. I don't think about it, i just find myself doing so.
Re: Have you ever had any money stolen from you?
I've not had money stolen from me persay, though I have been swindled. I've had a good few attempted muggings, none of which have been successful. Muggers don't really expect you to refuse them, I've found. Worst I've had from actual muggers is a bust lip, and even then I at least maintained my posessions AND my dignity.
More depressing than any robbery though was this: One day, I was walking home from work, and a 'homeless' guy approached me. He was trying to sell his last 'Big Issue' of the day. I was in a good mood, so rather than the usual £2 or whatever it is, I gave him a £10 note, and bade him a good evening. Walking away with smile, I then looked at the magazine in my hands, and discovered it was in fact not a copy of the Big Issue, but a free TNT mag he'd picked up off the street.
I no longer give money to anyone.

Re: Have you ever had any money stolen from you?
My purse was stolen when I was in the ninth grade.
There was this girl two years older than me who would steal people's purses and cell phones and use them to call her boyfriend in India. /rumor
It makes sense though because everything always went missing from the same sector of the school- the band hallway, the stage, and the girl's locker room.
The first time someone tried to steal my purse, it was when we were getting ready after a football game to go to a competition. I think they must have picked up a bunch of people's purses and dropped mine because one of the band parents found it and returned it to me.
But that day I walked out of band and grabbed my backpack and made it all the way to my classroom before I realized I was missing something. When I went back to the band hallway to check, it was long gone. The worst part was we were getting ready to go on a band trip and I had only days before got my first cell phone and it was now gone, as well as handfuls of other nice things I liked to keep in my purse. I was ratha furious.

I'm with Rickford and have only been swindled. It was on a trip in Venice and unfortunately I was that tourist. A gypsy offered my sister and I a couple of roses stating, "Roses for the ladies?" When we took said roses, he demanded €5 or so and refused to take the roses back when we tried to return them, yet he insisted we were stealing from him until he was paid for the flowers.
Moral of the story? Never take flowers from gypsies on the streets of Venice. It's a trap.

Similar thing almost happened to me, a rose seller said one price then whispered a different into my ear, specially awkward since I was on a first date and I guess he expected that I would pay any amount to avoid a scene. Luckily the girl realized something was wrong and returned the rose herself, good thing too since I probably wouldn't have thought of anything else to do but to pay up.Skwinky wrote:I'm with Rickford and have only been swindled. And it was, like, a 12 year old child.

Re: Have you ever had any money stolen from you?
Heh, Venice. I got swindled there by someone that managed to put on a street show with Mickey Mouse items that "danced on radio waves". When opened the stuff later on and realized we'd gotten conned into buying things that danced on fishing wire, we couldn't help but laugh and decide that the show and experience were worth the Lira we paid.Skwinky wrote:I'm with Rickford and have only been swindled. How am I not surprised that both gypsies and Venice are the source of financial woes. Also, having money stolen from you by such a small child is kinda scary, not gonna lie. Good thing he didn't ruin your date!

She, and yeah, it's sad when you realize that someone teaches children at that age to cheat. Also, having money stolen from you by such a small child is kinda scary, not gonna lie. Good thing he didn't ruin your date!

Nah, and even if I did, it wouldn't have been digital and there would be no way to find it anymore.McDuffies wrote:That actually sounds cool. Got a photo?KWill wrote:When opened the stuff later on and realized we'd gotten conned into buying things that danced on fishing wire
