Pekar is as big an influence on my work as anyone. But don't let that deter you from checking out his work, if you're not already familiar with it. Pekar tried to take comics in a direction that I wish they would have gone.

I posted about this on FB. But Pekar was a big influence. American Splendor was the first comic that I got heavily into. I thought it was cool comics could be more than about grown men in capes.
I wonder if Crumb is going speak out about it. I think it'd be awesome if a bunch of his collaborators did a memorial issue of Splendor. As the comic has been published for a good dent of his life.

I've sometimes wondered if Crumb and Pekar had a falling out, because they seemed to stop working together after awhile. But maybe it's because Pekar was able to find other illustrators and Crumb, of course, always had his own work to do.
I agree, a memorial issue of AS would be awesome.

They are/were not the easiest dudes to get along with, it's true.
Also, Crumb has the south of France and several fetishes to contend with.

As far as I know they were still on good terms. However Crumb has been working on some really ambitious projects the last several years, the recent being illustrating the entire book of genesis.Rcmonroe wrote:I've sometimes wondered if Crumb and Pekar had a falling out, because they seemed to stop working together after awhile.
