Just something to ponder.

I think mine would work best as a TV series. I kind of think of it like one anyway, with segments being broken down into seasons rather than chapters or story arcs. I guess it's partly because there aren't really any story arcs in it (at least so far), each strip kind of can sit on its own and be understood separate from the whole. I guess. I've just always written like that, pretty much every story I write is more just a collection of little episodic vignettes- never really got the hang of writing for The Bigger Picture until a story was already under full swing and I could kind of get to see where it was going.

Though initially it started as the idea for a novel. At some point a few years back I went through a phase where I came up with like eight different story ideas that I wanted to expand on fully eventually, but this was the only one that grew beyond a few notes and ideas and actually came to fruition. Now I look back and I'm pretty sure it wouldn't make a good book at all. Maybe if someone else wrote it it could be, but it fits my comicing style better than my writing style, methinks.

It would make a bad movie, mostly because of the meandering nature. I know the direction I want it to take but it's such a stretch from the beginning that it would just have no pull or allure as a movie. Unless I chose to just focus on one part, which would negate the point of telling the story at all if I couldn't take it the whole way I want to.

Which would also make it bad as a theatrical performance though that would be silly and amusing.

A videogame just flat out wouldn't work in my situation, but I included it as an option because I know some people here have really epic comics that could translate well into that medium.

Animated TV show, probably. If it could be a novel I would have wrote a novel. Takes less time to tell a story that way. But furry characters tend to work badly in print, probably because foolish writers go overboard in describing appearances to make sure nobody forgets these aren't humans, and we end up with far to many words about fur ears and tails.

I never really thought about it until you brought it up, but I'm beginning to think mine would be lovely as a radioplay. It's a rather surreal venture as is, but I think if I were to move it to a different medium, I'd want to do something completely different--really boil it down to it's core element, which in this case is two characters talking to each other.

I do think your question raises an interesting issue, though. Perusing various webcomic hosting sites, it would seem to me that people start a webcomic because it's something they think they can do, not because it's necessarily the best medium for what they have in mind. I'm curious of those out there who have done projects in multiple mediums: when you first come up with an idea, how do you choose the best format in which to present it?

It would have to be a novel, since that's the only one I can do by myself. An animated TV show is neat to fantasize about, though. Still, I'm not sure the story's pacing would accommodate an episodic format.

When I was little, I used to think that someday I would have my own cartoon on TV. I planned to draw and color every cel of it, and find some way to do all the voices or maybe find a few friends that could. I started to make a motion picture once about an anthropomorphic ant that used to feature frequently in things I made. I drew I think the first three cels, one was him walking up a staircase, and the next was him in the building, and I forget what the third was. I don't think I comprehended the amount of work that would be required to take on such a venture.

Some part of me still wants to do that. Just a few shorts. Make some videos for existing songs. I might do this someday, but the amount of work, time, and probably money that would be required evades the bounds of my imagination.

It's kind of a dumb thing I guess. I get over confident and jump right in to a big project despite logistical conundrums and then find myself saying Well Buttercups this is just out of my league isn't it! ... Then I go do the same thing again. I just won't learn.

...But yeah. O/T, I'd love to animate. Used to make all little flip books and everything because my grandfather would make us scores of pads of paper about the size of your hand for no reason that I can really think of. They come in handy though, and it was helpful for me to learn that even a brief animation takes way more paper than you think would be proportional.




All this talk of cels and papers. I sound really obsolete, don't I?

My comic might as well be Babylon 5, the way I'm running it.

Long plot-arc, set in space, mostly serious but punctuated with humor...that could describe a lot of sci-fi TV shows and movies, and my comic owes a lot to B5, Firefly, Star Wars, Star Trek, etc.
Had I the resources, I'd be doing The Adventures of Kanira Baxter as a movie or TV show, believe me. Probably TV show, since it would take a lot of movies to tell the whole story. But definitely an audio-visual thing, with stirring music and lotsa special FX...you get the idea.

TV Show. Mr. Wizard meets Mythbusters

Mine wouldn't work well as a movie since it's too meandering. (Unless I cut a lot and made it a really weird movie.) If I was any good at prose I'd have written it, I suppose. I'd make it a show, but maybe not a full half hour slot.

Meiosis is based loosely on some prose I wrote a couple of years ago, so it might be more interesting to do it as a book. As soon as I gain coherence, that is.

I'm torn between novel and video game...

I think novel because I may or may not be able to do that myself

But also my comic draws a little bit on video games... planning more video game references in the future

Game, there's loads of D&D RPGs and it might work ok as one.. Course, while I'd like it to be like Baldur's Gate, it'd be more likely to end up as Temple of Elemental Evil

My other sekrit comic project I'm working on is actually structured for animation, so TV series. Although it'd make a good novel too.

Many Tidings Grim would be one of those click-through adventure games, like the Monkey Island games.

It starts with Klik crashing, and then you work your way through meeting the characters, and everything goes wild once the daisy shows up.

proberbly far too early but i think it could work along the lines of scrubs or king of queens if my writer sharpend up her writeing a little lol!

Given the episodic nature of my comic, it'd like do best as a TV show, likely animated. However, I've always wondered what it would be like as a feature-length film, with all the special effects and CGI bells and whistles.

Though, given some focus and some more resources, I would like to make some video games, Flash animations and/or machinima videos.

Novel. Simply cuz it's been in novel form. Originally a comic book. Then a novel. Now comic strip.
