Anyone up for some 24 hour comics?

Anyone up for some 24 hour comics?

Post by Ataraxia »

Hi everyone! I'm not dead yet!

This coming Saturday is 24 Hour Comics Day. Is anyone here planning to do one? As there are no events being held in Korea, I'll be doing one at home and posting updates to internet. It'd be great if there were other people doing the same.

Here's the 24 Hour Comics webpage, in case you don't know what I'm prattling on about:

I'm planning on attending an event at a local comic store; I think I've only got about 12 hours in me, though, but I'm looking forward to just working on the comic all day and getting a buffer going.

I'm planning to go at it alone too, I won't make 24 pages though (I think) my goal is more along the lines of rebuilding my diminished buffer.
A man may fight for many things. His country, his friends, his principles, the glistening ear on the cheek of a golden child. But personally, I'd mud-wrestle my own mother for a ton of cash, an amusing clock and a sack of French porn.

I would do one if I could get some time myself, as well as a buffer.

:( Why do these things always get organized on a day when I can't make it?

Or two weeks after I just did one and am not in the mood to do another?

Dang it! I thought it was next Saturday. My sister's getting married this Saturday.(which is wonderful) Oh well. I can always do one some other time. I've been planning to do one next weekend, for like 3 months.

Totally doing this again. Except... At my apartment by myself. I'll be on the chat probably most of the time.

I'm not sure there's a location I can go to nearby anyway.

I'm definitely in this year--the first year (since I had an injury a few years back) I've felt my hand and arm are physically up for the workout. I'm planning to go to the comic shop near work. If I did it at home, I don't know if I'd have the self-discipline to finish. The shop is a bit of a long haul from home, but some friends have promised to come cheer me on.

I know you're not supposed to go into the event with an idea already formed well in advance, but I can't help myself, I know exactly what I want to do. I haven't plotted it out or anything, so we'll see what creeps out of the back of my subconscious 'round the 20th hour.

I began work at 9:15 this morning. It's now 3:51 in the afternoon, and I have pencils and text down for 24 pages. I expect it'll take 12 hours to ink everything.

Good luck to everyone else out there doing the challenge.

I have started the challenge.

Turns out the person I spoke with at the comic shop had wrong information--they'll only have five or six professional artists set up there, not (as I was imagining) tables for ordinary folks to draw while giving one another moral support. The general public is invited to come by at any time day or night and watch them work, cheer them on, bring them snacks, and buy stuff. A celebrity or two will be there signing things, etc. But, since it's at least a two-hour round trip for me just to get there, I dunno if I want to take that big a bite out of my day so I can look at other people making comics :P

I haven't decided whether to 1) draw a 24-hour comic alone (ha! I know I'll see something shiny and wander off...) or 2) draw as many installments of my own comic as I can in 24 hours (interrupted by shiny things) and start a real buffer for the first time.

I've given myself until 10am my time to figure out what I'd like to do and get started :)

If you can get 100 panels of an online comic done, that counts as a successfully completed 24 hour comic. Come on! It'll be fun!

I am now 12 hours and 45 minutes into the challenge. I've inked 16 pages; they need more work, since I haven't done any texturing or shading, but right now I'm just racing for the prize. My right arm is beginning to hurt a little. Do not let this dissuade anyone of what I said above about this being fun; sometimes fun hurts a bit. It's the nature of fun.

Here's a picture of the first three pages of my story.

Really? Then I'm in!

Whoo-hoo! Pom-pons! Cheering! Short cheerleader skirts! Way to go! XD

But be careful with your arm, take breaks and stretches. Don't lean your drawing arm (or the other one) or your elbows on a hard surface--or any surface--for prolonged periods while working. (I know whereof I speak, sucks to pinch a nerve.)

But otherwise: Whoo-hoo!

It's 4:00 in the morning. I have completed my comic, scanned the entire thing, and uploaded it to internet. It's called "One Monkey Short". Enjoy:

Congrats!

I'm on hour 18 :o and did decide to draw a webcomic for 24 hours straight (less about 2 hours spent on a train). I fell asleep for about a half hour but feel pretty awake now and am back at work.

I suspect I'm only going to end up with about 70 panels. But that's 70 more than I started with yesterday afternoon.
