Not another one! Webcomic Reviews

Post by JTorch »

Yes, like several other people have begun to do, I am going to start reviewing webcomics. After seeing several others do this, I've decided that it seems like a fun way to find new comics for me to read, improve my writing skills, and promote other comics. [I haven't mentioned this in the news on my site yet, but I will in the next update]. While I am going to actively search for comics to review, I am also going to try to constantly take requests.

I'll admit that I've done very little reviewing of any kind, let alone reviewing of webcomics, but I guess we'll see how this goes. If it turns out horribly, then it will have been a good experience, free publicity for some comics, and nothing lost. If it goes well, then I'll continue to review more and more comics, and still nothing lost. Either way, everybody wins. I think.

To request a review, go to my comic [link in signature] and go to Extras, and then Webcomic Reviews, then click "Request a Review". Alternatively, you can go straight to the review page by clicking here.

Eh, you'll get to me if you get to me.

Good luck with the endeavour.

Cheers.

Big thumbs up for using a form. Gives a pro vibe and It'll probably be much more organized than if you were hunting requests in a forum thread.

At the rate we're going, we're going to end up needing a separate forum for these sorts of things  .

I have applied for a review using the form. If I had to start a website reviewing webcomic review request procedures, yours would get top marks. Unfortunately I don't have a website like that.

I have put forth an invitation upon which you may hone your reviewing skills of comics on the web.

I AM A FORM CONNOISSEUR AND I LIKE THIS FORM BECAUSE IT IS GOOD YES!

However, I'm not going to use it yet since I'd like to have a good few more things in my archive for you to devour messily with your eyeballs.

I don't quite understand the practice of requesting reviews. Seems like the reviewer should just review what she/he damn well pleases. But maybe I'm too old media.

I just find it easier to find things to review if someone requests them. Plus with the form, people who are embarrassed to ask for a review in a public forum can do it without the fear of others thinking they're attention whores, or whatever their fear is. On top of that, the form requires an e-mail address, which means that I can notify the authors of the comics I review without having to search for an e-mail address only to find that there's not one on the site anywhere. I just hope I don't totally screw this up and that my reviews don't suck super monkey balls. It would be pretty sad if the form itself was more popular than the reviews. (I didn't make the form myself, by the way. [link]. Now you know. I am no longer special.) Oh, and I use the same type of form for fanart submissions by the way ;) Hint hint. I'm just kidding, I don't expect anyone to send me fanart.

Anyway, I have a lot of submissions already, so keep them coming and I'll try to make reviews that aren't totally disappointing. Thank you for your kind words.

Well as you know opinions are divided about whether there's any point in reviewing webcomics, or if it's rude or not to evaluate something that's free. The way I get it, when you call them to request a review, you know that you are reviewing someone who agrees with the whole practice of reviewing webcomics, at least nominally.

Good advertising? If your review is posted on that person's site, you automatically start to build an audience.

Um..... I think I successfully completed the form, but when I clicked "submit", I got a message saying that I hadn't entered the security code (which I had). Now I am not sure if you got my form or not, but I don't want to resend it if there's a chance you've already received it. :(

Apparently he's using Jotforms to handle form submissions. They have a nifty form generator.

This is why I don't request reviews.

No, I didn't get it. Feel free to send it again.
