New kid on the block
New kid on the block
Hmmmm, I suppose this seems like the place to say it. HEYA!!! I be da new guy! Anywho, I guess... today, I got spurred by one of those sorta eureeka moment thingies where you think OMG!!! I could totatly do that! And it would be UBER cool! But ya, after a couple hours at school toying with it, I went from the idea of my writing and makeing my own webocim to getting my friends to think up the whole thing and me just doing it in photoshop. This end was ultamitly met once I realised that I ahve no creativity in my head, or at least none that can be used for any slight amount of good. Instead I have gotten my friends to write my material and I will put it into photoshop.
So far I have only made 1 strip, but I have a few characters thought up. It is basicly in the style of Cyanide and Happiness, with the stickish figures and bizare humor. I don't want to put in the strip yet because I have no copyrighty thingy on it yet and I havn't discussed with my writers about posting it anywhere.
I have a few questions:
1. How do I do the copyright thing? Just put in the symbol near the bottom? Or do I need a website or somethign to copyright it to??
2. What catagory would "Bizare inane drible" go under? I saw no such catagory on the ComicGen site.
3. What do you veterans of Web Comics suggest is the best way to start up a comic??
EDIT: I have yet to think of a name for it so far, heh.

Hm... Well, it seems to me you may have a hard time sticking with us, kiddo. Spur-of-the-moment comicking is exciting, but it gets tougher once the novelty wears off. On the off-chance you'll stick around, welcome to Comic Genesis. Pull up a chair, have a good time, and don't drink the Mountain Dew.
As to your questions:
1. Just put "YOURCOMICNAME is hosted on Comic Genesis, a free webhosting and site automation service for webcomics" at the bottom of every page, and you should be good. It's not really official stuff.
2. You don't have to choose one... you may be "humor", or "geek", or "real life" or any one of these. Heck, you need not categorize yourself at all... it'd just be harder for people to find your comic in that case.
3. Just do it. Get a couple pages under your belt: get a feel for your characters and your story. More importantly, do it because you love it: don't expect to become the next Gabe and Tycho.

Heh, thanks for the advice. And I knew I was takeing a risk saying it, but just wanted to inform you people. Hopefully this won't be a short lived forey into the comic world but there is alway the possability
Anywho, I decided it was safe to give a bit of a teaser, so I made up a banner with a random name I thought up, who knows if it will stick. But ya, those are the 2 first characters I made.

Welcome to ComicGenesis, where all the cool comics hang out!
And the answer to the one they haven't answered so far -
Anything you do is copywritten. That it exists on the Internet makes it easy to steal, but it'd be easy to steal with or without a little copywrite notice.
This is a mistake a lot of newbies make - "OMG I GOTTA COPYRIGHT!!1!". Shh... ignore that screaming little demon. If you want a copyright, just add, 'Copyright 20xx, <your actual name>' at the bottom of your comic.
Frankly, if someone steals your stuff, you could try to sue them. But, you'd have to prove both intent and damage, which would be a monster, unless the comic suddenly starts appearing in some syndication somewhere.
I'd say, worry about the comics for now. When you get popular enough, worry about the copyright.

1. Put your name somewhere on the page, make it noticeable, and back up with promise of beatings should violations occur.
2. Humor. Does it right ba you.
3. Dance in public while singing incoherent bar songs until inspiration strikes like that girl you just groped...

"VOOM!" is what a space dreadnought's main cannon should sound like.

Nor should you not listen to any advise not given to you by anyone not on the forums... I think. Maybe. Not.Black Sparrow wrote:Especially not advice from McDuffies.mcDuffies wrote:and most important of all, don't listen to advices.

I think you need one less, or one more, negative. They cancel out. Right now you're saying he should listen to all advice from everyone on the forums. That'll get him into serious trouble.Czar wrote:Nor should you not listen to any advise not given to you by anyone not on the forums... I think. Maybe.
