Oh dear god, has anything like this happened to you?

Oh dear god, has anything like this happened to you?

Some background:

A guy by the name of Pasqual Lewis (or Larry Lewis as he's calling himself now) E-mailed me two years ago(when I was first starting out), and offered to draw PG for me.

It's not so much the offer that was weird, but the way he offered to help.

First off, he got the name of my comic wrong in the e-mail(called it 'gardian saga'), second off, he basically flamed the hell out of my artistic skills. Said my art was holding the comic back, that I shouldn't be allowed to draw, etc, and he 'generously' offered to draw for me. He even sent me samples(which shall be attached).

Anyways, I pretty much told the guy that 'Point Guardian' isn't about making money, and its' a moving exercise in furthering my skills as a writer and artist.

The e-mails stopped...

Until Today :)
hey ben its been awhile your shitty artwork has improved slightly.but instead of sticking to it you have now gotten others to make up for your shortcomings. i have one question why not at least put the artwork i sent in the fan art section. hell i draw better than you and all your friends put together or maybe you just dont want me to make you look bad. LARRY LEWIS

What really gets me is the sheer gall and arrogance he has in his own ability.

Has anyone else have this happen?

Yes. One of my mother's sisters googlestalked me awhile back and emailed me anonymously to offer advice in a very condescending way. She also threw in a bit of "trying to turn me against my family". I figured out that she was my mom's sister through process of elimination.

I finally told my mom about it two years later and she thought it was hilarious. Laughed for about ten minutes straight.

Oh man! I can't believe it! Aside from the arrogance/gall, does he even know what "FAN" means? as in FAN art?

(P.S.: I am not sure I even know what that is in his picture.)

You are right to ignore this guy.. but it's extremely creepy that he followed up after TWO years with more insults.

What a jerk. I can't actually tell what's happening in his picture, I had to turn it a few different ways before I got it..

Seems like some two uber-masculine male figures drawn with all knowledge of anatomy of one Rob Liefeld.

What creep.

Wow, creepy is a vast understatement. If he's so sure of himself, why doesn't he just start up his own comic instead of badgering you about yours?

The best thing to do with people like that is laugh and then ignore them. They obviously don't understand complicated concepts like "common sense", "politeness" and "modesty".

I'm surprised he could still be mad over something like this for two years. Still, though, it'd be best to response politely to him and try to diffuse the situation.

Kill him with kindness. Post the letter on your site, the same way you did here, but politely thank him for his 'suggestions' but let him know that you think it'd be great if he'd make his own comic. Let your fans insult him for you. Most people don't really know how to respond to someone being nice to them, especially when they themselves are being rude or demanding.

Wow.

Even from your very first comics I like your style much more than his. His artwork sample makes no sense.

The internet gives people the confidence to be DICKS. Not because they're legitimately good at anything, but because nobody's standing behind them to smack them when they act like A-holes.

Oi, oi. Quoted for truth.

Just ignore guys like these. What an egotist prick.

Ack! A Jamie sighting! :o

And yeah, that's....messed up. I agree, the guy's a terrible artist. I'd just ignore him. Well..okay, I might email back telling him to back off but instill a not contact rule after that.

It's like a restraining order for the internet!

I once had a commenter on my old CG site who started off nice and got gradually weirder and bitchier. They once posted something like "Oh, Don in a green sweater and Doll in a white dress, with red walls, what a surprise". And Homer Simpson wears blue pants, WTF is your point? :-?

I second the suggestion for posting his email on your site, along with his email address, and a link to his 'art'. Remove it after a couple of days, when he has been sufficiently harassed :)

Well, once there was this guy who wanted to get me to draw his comic for him (ugh no, I hated his stuff), but though he got on the "creepy" end of obessive questioning despite my firm "no thank yous" , he never quite got to this level of sheer hate/obsession.

Well, he just e-mailed me again.

The nature of his latest e-mail is rather... crude to say the least. I'm afraid I won't be able to post it due to the sheer amount of vulgarity.

The gist is he calls me a stiff. He says he likes to 'mess' with me, and to keep up with my 'bad' artwork, he 'luvs' it.
