How many readers do you have?

Post by Linkara »

This thought came to me recently while looking at my visits list. I noticed that so far, during the month of June, my readership has doubled to a high of 50 people reading my comic at one point or another. ^^

It got me thinking - how many people read other, more popular comics, saaay, oh, Legostar Galactica? And at what level of readers is required to actually be as popular, as, say, VG Cats, PvP, or Penny Arcade?

if I get over 50 unique hits a day, I consider myself happy. Alas, this ammount falls in the 'loser' category.

well I have enough readers, to make me realize people are reading it and are enjoying it, on a consistant basis. Its good to know that there are quite a few people who like what I'm doing, and fuels me to contine.

thats all I need.

I reached about 100 a day a month or so back, but since I stood back and decided to leave any major advertising and promoting alone for the month of June, just to see how the strip would stand up on its own, it's getting about 75 a day.

Which is much better than six months ago when it was getting 30 on a good day.

I fall into the "loser" category, but it's my own fault for not actively promoting enough; people can't read a comic if they don't know it's out there. :) Once I remedy that situation, we'll see if I'm... um.. still a loser.

Well its rumored that penny arcade gets about 200,000 visitors a day and Pvponline gets about 50K.

Those are the big boys. I wish I knew about some other comics though like sluggy, somethingpositive and inverloch.

I believe it was mentioned by Randy of something positive that you need about 4000 visitors a day to make money off of google adds. Sounds like we all have a long way to go :(

My own comic has been having its best month ever averaging about a hundred visitors a day. Due to signing up with mutliple hotlists and a link exchange. BTW I recommend you register at the belfry. Its a index, not a hotlist so everyone gets equal exposure.

Edit: added the stuff about ads

I try not to compare my own stats with other comics because I have the unhealthy habit of equating a comic's level of traffic to its value as an art form, which is totally wrong. Good comics are not always popular, and popular comics are not always good, and there will always be greater and lesser comics than your own. If you're not enjoying your comic regardless of your level of readership, you need to stop. That's what I did.

That said, you can see PVP's level of traffic right here. Kurtz averages just over 100k uniques a day. Control-Alt-Delete gets 250k uniques, according to their advertising agency on this site. You can see the levels of traffic for VG Cats (120k uniques), Least I could do (60k), and 8-bit Theater (75k).

As for me, according to my webalizer stats, I was getting around 500 uniques a day before I dropped out of the Grind. Now it's slumping down towards 400. Pageviews goes between 2k and 3k, but sometimes bounced up to 4k, 5k, and even 6k on random days. But hey, I'm trying not to pay too much attention to those until I start updating again. I don't know how much traffic you need to make money at a web comic, but that's probably not it yet.

Last time I was regularly updating I got to about 40 a day. It had been rising generally steadily, but every time it got to that point I quit updating and it dropped off. Hopefully, when I get home, I can try and get into a steady rhythm andsee how many people I can actually hook in.

according to the stat counter I get roughly 230 unique hits a day, which comes as a shock to me, I figured it'd be a hell of a lot less, especially after that massive hiatus I had

I'm not really sure what we're going off of, here. In the stats page, I have an average of 57 visitors and 1082 hits a days. So, yeah . . . I'll be . . . over here . . . *walks to the loser side of the line*
