The WebcomicList is nice. OnlineComics.net isn't so much... Ghastly would be a No. 1 choice.

Dominic Deegan was the most effective comic I've ever advertised on. Onlinecomics.net helped me a lot, as well. Yirmumuh! and other sites sponsor ads...not really.

Trying S*P on June 7 to celebrate my 1 year anniversary. Tell you how that goes.

I thought the "Webcomic List" had died... but the "The Webcomics List" (I forget how the urls go) is still alive. IMHO, however, their ranking system is failing for certain comics due to the increasing popularity of mailing lists.

Do sigs count as advertising? ...oh, wait, you said useful advertising. Nevermind.

the belfry is a pretty good place for advertising, mainly furry comics on this, but there's quite a lot of comics listed here, including mine. i get a fair amount of hits each month from 'em, too.

I think you got those two mixed up. Or maybe you didn't. All I know their names confuse me no end. Anyway, the Webcomic List (singular) is still alive and kicking.

I'm up on the Belfry too...have been for ages. I get a little from them now, but it's only been in the last few months. Dunno what's changed because I haven't been there for donkey's years. I'm listed on a few sites, but none of them give me a decent flow of traffic. There'd be specific reasons for that, no doubt, but I'm not really interested in digging in and finding out what I have to do to get better results. I figure it's my way or the highway.

Granted the highway has more traffic and would get me somewhere faster...but I guess I've got that stubborn Dutch streak after all.

Yep... I got mixed up. The sad thing is, I used to check "The Webcomic List" quite a bit until about a month ago.

I was thinking of this thread over on the Keenspot forums.

There are so many of those listing sites around, though... and the darn "Vote" buttons are really starting to get to me. Of course, it doesn't help that I mainly use IE, which tends to freeze (along with my whole computer) when trying to load one of those sites' button-images (it varies each time). Don't know why, and it didn't start until recently...

I've been making a list of my own. I can PM you an Excel spreadsheet with a lot of information, if you'd like.

I worry about making such a list public, though. I think some advertisers may not want their rates to be public knowledge.

Also, rates change frequently. So any website you put up about them is going to become obsolete within weeks.

Still, I wish this information was in a central place, somehow.

That would be awesom, thanks! Email would be best. My PM box is a bit full. joelfagin at hotmail dot com

I wasn't planning on putting up the rates.

Even obsolete information wouldn't be an entirely bad thing, considering you could get an idea of rate changes from months (or eventually years) earlier. Plus comparing stuff like ad size versus the maximum number of impressions is useful regardless of price (I think).

Are you saying that the voting sites have banded together in a massively coordinated yet deceptively simple attack designed to obviate the need for a rather widely-used web tool? :D

It's just weird, I guess. So sudden, and it hasn't been resolved. Could this sort of thing affect the subscriptions to those listing/voting sites, or more likely just the use of IE?

Chris and I are actually considering out opptions, too. Blank Label does advertising, as does No Need for Bushido, Alpha Shade, Red String, Comixpedia, Top Webcomics, and Falcon Twin.

I got a pile of hits from people when I paid $5 to the creator of Better Days, and when I sponsored the author of The NOOB. I even bought a day's advertising at Kevin and Kell once.

Big spikes. But they fade out after a week. Still, I picked up a percentage of those spikes as long term readers.

http://www.alpha-shade.com/ is the only comic I've advertised with(for various reasons) as of right now, but I found the response was quite impressive.

I've considered advertising with Errant Story before, but just to let you know without giving numbers (not sure if they even make that public knowledge anymore, as they weren't getting ad sales) that what they ask for money in exchange for impressions is retarded.

Reallifecomics.com is also pretty steep. Not sure how effective they are, either.

Bottom line, if you're a fantasy comic and got a spare 10 bucks, advertise on dominic-deegan.com for a day. On my best day of the week I advertised there, I got 13000 hits. They didn't diminish while the ad was running, either. After the ad was over, I gained a LOT of readers.

I'm riding out and trying to refrain from paying for advertising. As soon as my job bring in the right money, then I'll start throwing in a few dollars for the cause.

I have advertised on Misfile, Dominic Deegan, BadBlood, the Noob, and i'm currently advertising on Comedity. With the exception of Bad Blood, they are all work very well given their prices.
Could be worse; could be raining.

Yep. I was sitting on them in case I could get them on Comixpedia or something.
