IRLB Censorship; does it apply to us

Post by BunELovecraft »

http://irlb.org/

So lately the government is trying to censor the web and rate everything and fine anybody who does do it. Does this apply to us? Will we have to take down everything and censor it? Even the most tame web comic probably has something that the government would find offensive. It's like Orwells 1984!

So what do you guys think about it? I know I'll have to get onto ftp and take my site down probably. Anybody else?

That website makes me laugh and shake my head at the same time. I think they need a proof reader for their ratings.
Web G wrote:This content contains the following: violence (V), sexual situations (S), coarse language (L), sexual dialogue (D).
Not one or more of the following, but all. Image. Not to mention that they, for some reason, decided to make "Web G" not mean "General audience".

Bah.

I don't think we'll have to take anything down, but it seems that we may have to add those stupid little black box ratings somewhere on the website. It occurs to me that there will likely be an easy workaround to whatever ruling they make on this.

I smell hoax. It looks to me like this website sprang up out of nowhere and the language on it is too purposefully Orwellian.

If this were a government website, wouldn't it have the ending ".gov"? Especially if it's a government agency.

When did that site pop up? Did it, perchance, appear this past Saturday?

It's satire, and pretty lame satire at that. Come on, if the government can't keep people from trading movies and MP3s online, how do they expect to make us start rating our own websites?

<3 being Canadian.
Caught in the headlamp glare of your own blinding vanity/Mesmerised by the stare of your shallow personality
Gorging the junk food of flattery you drag your fat ego around/Everyone floored by the battering you give to whoever's around
Oh Narcissus you petulant child admiring yourself in the curve of my eyes/Oh Narcissus you angel beguiled unsated by self you do nothing but die

.con would be sufficient, and much more useful.

Frighteningly, .con would probably fool people even more for being so close to .com

Not to mention a bunch of the fees listed on the fees page are for patents and trademarks :-?. Actually, they seem to be copied from here.

**Edit**

I actually read "article 4356" and I don't know what the hell they are on, but it has nothing to do with web content. Its an amenment on title 18, "the privacy act" which protects people from fraud and criminal activity during disasters, and emergency situations. here's the full thing. http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billtex ... =h109-4356
