24 Hour....Comics...? (CG Bust a Move?)

Post by Kris X »

So I was on the forum with my new acquaintance Lirel of Bad Blood and I heard that she was in a SPAWN 24-hour event. Basically you pick a day and draw 24 hours, producing a 24 page comic (Click the link for details). I also jumped over to SpiderForest Forums and saw that they too were planning some 24 shin-dig too. All aside the 24 Hour Event and I was wondering, after accumalting this information, who was actually considering participating this? Even more so...Does CG dare to start their own event?

Perhaps a "We're now Comic Genesis, look at our mojo" event to finally break open with our new name? Something fun I hope... Or am I being too daring?

There was an Australian 24 hour event only recently.

Can't imagine that quite a lot of the talent here wouldn't want to have some fun. Might set some guidelines though. Page size, number of frames per page, black and white or color, or any. Also content, can you or can't you use preconcieved content? I think that should be clear so that if not then people can take time to write before the actual drawing begins. But if you don't trust them to wait, then maybe if you started with certain random perameters? Like at midnight the moderator could say, "ok, genre: horror, character: duck, items: bananna, duct tape, and a pina colada.", etc, then you know everyone is starting on the same page. At least if you're doing it online that is.

Didn't Scott McCloud get this ball rolling a few years ago?

Anyhow, 24 hours is old news. The new thing to do is 175.

I think I'd like to try it - though it'd have to be after the weekend, when I have an actual day of free time.

I'd probably be up for it... I've tired of my current comic ( ) so forcing something new would be cool.

It doesn't have to be 24 hours deal. It could be something else. I just think it would be fun and give use something to break out with our new name.

I wouldn't be able to do it for quite a while. Having extra mouths to feed at the time being.

Taking 24 days for me right now would be a kill for any other activity. The issue is somehow always brought up when I'm skimpy with time. I wish I remembered this back at the end of July when I was boring myself in an empty willage house... :(

There is another thing that I tried to execute for a while. Given my drawing speed, I wanted to make a 12 minutes challenge, where I'd try to make a comic, drawing one page a minute, plus time needed for scanning and posting. I never got around to really do it.

PeppermintAfterLife used to do a one minute comic for the school paper back in the day. It was inspiring.

I did the 24 hour comic thing in 12 hours last April. My comic sucked the biggets fattest donkeyballs ever. But it was a lot o fun, I'd do it again.

I don't know about the 24-hour comic deal, since the appeal, at least to me, was the sense of community involved with such an event (i.e. comic book stores staying open 24 hours to give artists a place to set up shop and be amongst other writer/artists). I don't know if we have that kind of pull on the greater comics community yet. But I am definately in favor of some large concentrated effort on all our parts to show the internet how awesome we are, especially now that we've changed our name. I just see a 24 hour comic idea going horribly awry, with comics not being submitted on time or the keenspace server crashing on the day of or etc. etc. etc. Anyway, whatever you guys decide upon, even if it's a 24hour comic, count me in.
