Attention: similar Comic Genesis logo found

Post by Faceless »

I was searching around the internet for a website on 3D modelling and I found a site that has been on the net since 2002 it seems, and is very well established.

Just look at that classy logo in the top left: http://www.cgsociety.org/

After looking at that wonderful logo, I started to think... Doesn't that look a little like ours? And what should we do about this?

... Ignore it?
... Make a new logo?
... Destroy the website?
... See if they'll allow us to use our similar logo?

I'll leave this to open discussion with you guys.

I wouldn't worry about it. Their design is significantly different from the ComicGenesis logo, so they wouldn't likely win a suit over branding confusion. The font is definitely similar, but that's even less likely to be a problem.

I thought it looked oddly like our own. Strange.

I called for the attention that the logo looked similar to this brazilian company, but heck, this is almost identical.

Tough luck we have...

No we were not. I have all the designs that led up to the final one as... Well, not proof, I suppose, but evidence.

Damn, but that is awfully similar. I was expecting a superficial resemblence and was all ready with a speech about how, really, no logo is completely unqiue and there's bound to be something similar to everything somewhere.

But that... Goddamn.

I did check, on the off-chance, to see if I could find when the logo was introduced. I figured if it was recent, it'd have some mention of it. Anyway: no. Couldn't find anything.

Seems to be convergent evolution. Makes sense. The letters must be that way around to be read as being those letters and CG is THE term for such artwork... Someone just happened to think along the same lines.

I too see the similarities, but they're rather generic to me -- I've seen similar in college chemistry departments. Nothing new, any trademark is probably diluted by now.
