This is really desperate.

Okay, I'm not desperate. Kinda. I'm just trying this to see how it works. Anyone who reads this, try this out. Go to my comic, read whatever you like in the archives, then leave a comment for me via
Online Comics.net. Then, I'll try to go to your webcomic and if you have a vote page on OnlineComics.net, I'll do the same thing. I think at the end of the day, it'll help people feel better. It'll make me feel better, so let's see how it makes you feel.
Just a thought. If no one likes it, fine. But don't judge me.

So what you're saying is,
"Hey, let's scam the OnlineComics.net voting system!"
Nice. I'll end my rant there.
::edit:: except of course, to tell everyone.
"Hey, I know. Let's report this scammer to OnlineComics.net and get her webcomic pulled from there!"
I know it'll make me feel better. Let's see how it makes you feel.

It makes me feel like shit, thanks. I didn't think of it as scamming. Really. Fine, I'll just drop it.

Look at it this way...
Would you rather have an artifically high rank that in no way actually expresses anything about your comic, or a lower rank that actually suggests where you really rank in comparison to other comics?
IMHO there are better, more honest ways to raise your rank. I'd suggest posting a request for a critique on the Tips and Tricks thread, for example. Maybe others are seeing something wrong or something you could change or update about your comic or site that you aren't catching.

I guess...it just sucks having an unpopular comic. People sometimes don't even bother to look at it if it's not popular, ya know? Anyway, thanks for telling me that it was scamming. I didn't know.

It's an honest mistake, but having an artificially popular comic sucks too.
All comics start out unpopular. You would do well to remember that. I get annoyed that I bounce around pages 5-7 every single day, usually 5-6, while there is a lot of comics above me that I wonder how they got there for various reasons.
Just keep at it and don't miss updates and eventually you'll catch on. Eventually. You just have to have patience.

Looked at the comic, not my taste to be honest, if you want a big audience, follow the trends (gaming comics, manga, did I mention gaming comics?)
Besides, if you aim for fame with your comic, you'll always end up dissapointed.

I really don't think she meant it as a "vote for me" rank-climbing scam...she just wanted some feel-good comments. Do the comments even factor into the rankings?
But yeah, there are better ways to get feedback and good advice that people won't think look kind of scammy - and asking for a crit on the techniques board is definitely one of them.

You don't feel bad about that? I would.

It's taken me two years to get maybe, MAYBE 100 readers. I'm still always on page six of the guide (except one month I bought advertising).
I still enjoy doing the comic though.

The path is more important than the goal.

If he enjoys doing it why should he? I think you may be mising the point of comicing. It'd be nice to be popular but I'm just trying to tell a good story. No one reading hasn't stopped me yet

While I realise this is going off on a tangent on the conversation, I'd just like to mention that Onlinecomics.net has different types of comments you can post. The 'praise' comment raises the popularity rank. The 'general' comment is just that. A comment that doesn't affect the rankings.
A bit off-topic, but thought I ought to mention that anyway.
All that said, they're right in that making a comic to be popular is the wrong way to go, mainly because more often than not you end up pandering so much to getting more hits your works stops having a heart and your audience feels it, if you get what I mean.
It's depressing to have an unpopular comic, but the only way to gurantee having a popular comic is having a good comic AND promoting it properly. So I'd say the first step is finding ways to improve your comic. Better art. better schedule etc.

I guess that makes sense.

...being violently UNpopular isn't that bad.
...really, it isn't.
*cries*
...these are tears of joy, honestly.
ARGH. Edit: That was meant to say unpopular.
